Essentialism is more than a time-management strategy or a productivity technique. It is a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not, so we can make the highest possible contribution toward the things that really matter.

Great for senior leaders
Revisado: 08-13-24
Great content, but the examples and content was targeted towards senior leadership. For those of us growing from mid-level management, there were solid nuggets but it didn’t feel like it was written for my situation.

Historia
Walking with God through Pain and Suffering is the definitive Christian book on why bad things happen and how we should respond to them. The question of why there is pain and suffering in the world has confounded every generation; yet there has not been a major book from a Christian perspective exploring why they exist for many years.

Thorough & Thoughtful
Revisado: 03-25-24
Not just a theology book and not just a self-help book. It wrestles with the real struggles people feel with theological nuance and relatable story content.

Historia
At the front of a middle-school classroom in Oklahoma, a boy named Khosrou (whom everyone calls "Daniel") stands, trying to tell a story. His story. But no one believes a word he says. To them he is a dark-skinned, hairy-armed boy with a big butt whose lunch smells funny; who makes things up and talks about poop too much.

A refugee’s story from a child’s perspective
Revisado: 07-18-23
This book’s storytelling style is unique - something I had never experienced, but mesmerizing. Brought such an appreciation and understanding of the hardships refugees go through and the pain of leaving a life behind to start new. So neat to hear it from the perspective of Daniel as a child.

Historia
This audiobook is for you if you know your job is getting harder because donor expectations have changed, the old orthodoxies and conventions don't work anymore, and competition for the charitable dollar is growing. Engagement Fundraising was developed from the perspective of a donor who discovered firsthand that the impersonal, spray-and-pray approaches of his beloved charity were not only offensive but also wasteful and ineffective. With Engagement Fundraising, you can be the fundraiser you want to be.

Good content. Very repetitive.
Revisado: 01-26-23
The book could have been half the length because many concepts were repeated over and over. The book is certainly a sales pitch since MarketSmart is the only product doing what they’re saying, but they’re also not wrong. As a marketer now getting into fundraising, the concepts are spot on and we could learn a lot from his ideas.

Historia
Taylor Schumann never thought she'd be a victim of gun violence. But one spring day a man with a shotgun walked into her workplace and opened fire on her. While she survived, she was left with permanent wounds, both visible and invisible. In When Thoughts and Prayers Aren't Enough, Taylor invites us to see what it means to be a survivor after the news vehicles drive away and the media moves on.

Story-driven and well-balanced
Revisado: 04-19-22
Taylor’s story and research hit deep. As a parent of a medically fragile and special needs child, I not only learned the perspective of a survivor of a mass shooting, but felt seen in many ways as she described how your life is changed in ways many people just won’t understand.
I live in Arizona and have gun culture all around. Her balanced perspective on understanding the culture but calling out the ways it is too much was refreshing. As a Christian who is relatively new to the gun control conversation, the practical tips and Christ-centric perspective was very helpful.

Historia
In this powerful audiobook, pastor, professor, and leading cultural apologist Voddie Baucham explains the sinister worldview behind the social justice movement and how it has quietly spread like a fault system, not only through our culture, but throughout the evangelical church in America. He also details the devastation it is already wreaking - and what we can do to get back on solid ground before it’s too late.

Well-spoken, but faulty premise
Revisado: 02-10-22
This is a worldview book, not a theological treatise. If you are looking for a biblical discussion of social justice this is not the book. If you want to see Baucham disprove a ton of the worldview stances surrounding CRT and the outflows of that, this is your book. Unfortunately, his premise is that there are two camps - anti-CRT (Christian) or fully-embracing CRT. The entire book is spent proving why the full CRT movement has worldview problems - which I agree it does. Unfortunately, he completely missed the nuance of those who are pursuing truth they see in Scripture about social justice and can see some good in CRT without adopting the full worldview. Because I find myself in this camp (knowing CRT isn’t perfect, but also seeing that the Bible has a lot to say about social justice), I didn’t learn anything from this book except knowing what my friends and family are learning a little better.
I will add, the guy who read the book was fabulous. 5 stars.
