This classic expose of the Fed has become one of the best-selling books in its category of all time. Where does money come from? Where does it go? Who makes it? The money magician's secrets are unveiled. Here is a close look at their mirrors and smoke machines, the pulleys, cogs, and wheels that create the grand illusion called money. A boring subject? Just wait. You'll be hooked in five minutes. It reads like a detective story - which it really is, but it's all true.

Good Info, Bad Conclusion
Revisado: 11-03-16
Would you listen to The Creature from Jekyll Island again? Why?
No, I have all the info.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Learning about how money is created and how the Federal Reserve works
Any additional comments?
This book did a very good job in describing the Federal Reserve and what rolls debts have played in very big historic events. However, his conclusion is off in my opinion. He hates socialism, doesn't think the government should help provide welfare for it's citizens, and thinks collectivism is the devil.
I have to disagree, it's human nature to band in groups and place the groups well being above the individual. A break from this has caused people to create central banks and exploit the people, because they are out for themselves. Any rich country should be able to provide for it's citizens.
Also at the end he says that no taxes need to be paid, but I doubt that, without fiat money how is the government to be paid, how is education funded, how are streets built.

Aided by the latest archival findings and recently declassified documents and building on the research of the world’s best scholars, Stone and Kuznick construct an often shocking but meticulously documented "people’s history" of the American empire that challenges the notion of American exceptionalism. Stone and Kuznick will introduce listeners to a pantheon of heroes and villains as they show not only how far the United States has drifted from its democratic traditions but the powerful forces that have struggled to get us back on track.

So much I didn't know!
Revisado: 09-19-16
I really liked that this book critiqued everyone equally, including Obama, Clinton and even JFK. it didn't dive into conspiracy theories about the JFK assassination, the moon landing, 9/11, Hitler or anything else. most of the information presented was from documents people can view for themselves. And it did a great job showing how the US foreign policy of being an emperialistic power has hurt us in the past, is still hurting us, and looks like it will continue this way and that all presidents have given into the power of corporations and their CEOs and furthered their interests, rather than that of the general population.

Good Insight
Revisado: 08-30-16
I thought this book gave a good insight into China's market. my only issue was that the book is a little outdated buy now and would like to know how things are looking these days. The book makes it seem like China is moving towards playing by the book and being more fair, but now we know they steal all their info, just think google and the enforcement still sucks. As a matter of fact it's the government who is hacking these companies to get proprietary information.
In other words, the book may have been to much of an optimistic view on China and it's future.

Intro to survival
Revisado: 08-05-16
if you never thought about survival before this brings up some good points, but is is very short and nothing is covered in depth.
I would have liked to seen maybe chapters about specific climates, what to look for where. Maybe more info on how far he thinks you should travel as a nomad, does he mean going back and forth between coasts? just circling a state, no clue.

Historia
On May 18, 1860, William H. Seward, Salmon P. Chase, Edward Bates, and Abraham Lincoln waited in their hometowns for the results from the Republican National Convention in Chicago. When Lincoln emerged as the victor, his rivals were dismayed and angry. Throughout the turbulent 1850s, each had energetically sought the presidency as the conflict over slavery was leading inexorably to secession and civil war.

Eye Opening
Revisado: 07-06-16
I was expecting to listen to a book which gave accounts of America from 1776 to now and some not well known facts. I was mistaken about that, it generally dealt with the cold war era, not exactly in chronological order either. So all that threw me off at first but then I was gripped by it, angered by it, amazed at my ignorance although I've lived in other countries. The things I've learned in this book truly makes me want to make a change in this world.

Much more than just stories
Revisado: 06-27-16
I thought this book would just be a collection of survival stories, but I was mistaken. This book mainly focused on the mind set and psychology of these people, explaining the stupid and smart things they have done. I think it can really help yourself recognize what's going on.
The book has an appendix with some items that everyone can do to try to stay alive, but most the book does not.
Overall a very good book and I really appreciated it and learned a lot.

Historia
In February 1959, a group of nine experienced hikers in the Russian Ural Mountains died mysteriously on an elevation known as Dead Mountain. Eerie aspects of the incident—unexplained violent injuries, signs that they cut open and fled the tent without proper clothing or shoes, a strange final photograph taken by one of the hikers, and elevated levels of radiation found on some of their clothes—have led to decades of speculation over what really happened.

More about author's trip than the incident
Revisado: 06-14-16
At least half of the book was concerned with the author's trip to the mountain, the other half about the events leading up to the incident, like how they rode on trains and such things. Then there is a little info on how Russia dealt with the incident. Only for about 40 min in the last 2 chapters does the author state his theory and explain it. It's an interesting theory, but it's one sided, no counter arguments to it...Overall this book is bad when it comes to detailing the incident. If I listen to a book I want more details the a documentary on TV, but I think I got less info.

Interesting Insight
Revisado: 06-02-16
it was a fun story to listen to, a real insight into the cold war spy activities and the story about Argo. But I feel that it kind of missed the mark on portraying the dangers involved. Either I assume that punishments and interrogations of caught spies are worse than they are, or he left them out to seem less grim. Either way it is nice to see a realistic insight.
