Philippa Langley reveals the findings of a remarkable new research initiative: ‘The Missing Princes Project'. In the summer of 1483, Edward V (aged 12) and his brother Richard Duke of York (aged 9), disappeared from the Tower of London. For over 500 years, history has judged that they were murdered on the orders of their uncle Richard III. Following years of intensive research in UK, American and European archives, astonishing new archival discoveries have been uncovered that change what we know about the fate of the Princes in the Tower.

Pronounced: Par-la-munt, not Par-li-ament 🤦🏻♀️
Revisado: 06-15-24
I swear, we owe the tenacious Phillippa a lot. Finding King Richard was so great an achievement that she is forgiven for being the absolute dullest narrator there ever was... but please, please, make her stop saying Par-li-ament. She mispronounces so many words and names that the story becomes incoherent at times. One is, of course, a bit strained already because she also does not adhere to good ol' English sentence structure. She reads like a second grader reading in front of the class for the first time.
Ah well, onward.
Philippa, should you read this, let others narrate your work. Everybody will be better off for it.

Fifty years later, Agent Pendergast takes on a bizarre and gruesome case: in the ghost-haunted city of Savannah, Georgia, bodies are found with no blood left in their veins—sowing panic and reviving whispered tales of the infamous Savannah Vampire.

Terrible narrator
Revisado: 08-28-21
I can't believe nobody reined that new narrator in, but let him run with his idiot Dr. Zeus-like caricatures instead of characters for a long time. I have a feeling a third way through, the director finally said something. This is embarrassing, particularly when it comes to such a well established, most beloved series.
Not only does the new narration and the director suck in this one, the whole recording seems to have technical issues. It is extremely loud one moment and the next second you can't understand a word, because narrater guy is whispering so quietly ( mostly without a reason mind you, just to be theatrical). This should've been caught by the director AND balanced by the technician... neither happened until almost half way through. In case somebody involved in the production reads this, yes you should've re-recorded, I'm sure you've discussed it.
I liked the story.
PS: No, it isn't an excuse that narrators work from home, mostly. I follow many of my favorite narrators and they recorded little videos how they work now, and they can handle it just fine, producing quality.

Yikes
Revisado: 06-07-19
First and foremost, I want to have it noted on the book description that this is "Christian Literature" or better propaganda. And not very cleverly conducted either. Rather nauseating, actually, in it's heavy-handedness. It's all over the place. The narrator can handle male character very well and brutally butchers his female characters. This is the rare occasion when I will return a book.

Monty Python's voices ... not in a good way.
Revisado: 02-03-17
What did you like best about Jamaica Inn? What did you like least?
I like Daphne du Maurier, though I think this one of her weaker stories. Sadly one wouldn't be able to tell about that because the narration is comically bad.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Mary Yellen... how I remember her from the book. Here she sounds like the a female character played by the men of the "Monty Python's"
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Entirely, thoroughly, devastatingly, mind bogglingly, I want to rip my hair out with my hands while running around screaming... as far as detraction from the story is concerned, the narrator was highly successful.
Could you see Jamaica Inn being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
It has been filmed many times.
Any additional comments?
Make it stop ! Make that man stop ! The narrator is so bad that Hachette Audio must be dealing with a lot of lawsuits because of people trying to pierce their eardrums while exposed to that horrible narration.

Revisado: 01-27-16
What would have made Pride and Persistence better?
It's hard to say... even a better, less cheesy and stumbling narration might have done it some good. There are narrators which can take a turd like this and infuse it with some life.
Has Pride and Persistence turned you off from other books in this genre?
No.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Not sure if that's possible...to detract even more. It just matched the horrid substandard the story called for. I'm not sure english is the narrators first language.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
All of the above. A sense of "how dare she defile Jane Austen like that..."
Any additional comments?
It's astonishing that this got published... it's so tedious and just simply bad, it makes me believe that there must be a huge demand in the "Jane Austen Retelling Market" that absolutely anybody and everybody can have a shot at it.

Would you listen to Er ist wieder da again? Why?
Yes, it is brilliant.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Er ist wieder da?
To many to count.
What does Christoph Maria Herbst bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Phew... A LOT !Even though the book is brilliant how it is and would be a treat to read. Christoph Maria Herbst is bringing it so brilliantly to life that one forgets at times that he isn't the actual "Führer" ... he doubles the effect of the book by whipping you lovingly through the hot and cold feelings of liking the lead character and then being shocked about it and then having an epiphany of the clearest kind. Well done indeed !
Who was the most memorable character of Er ist wieder da and why?
The lead character, because of brilliant writing and fantastic performance.

What would have made Let's Just Say It Wasn't Pretty better?
... nothing, I came to believe that this portraits the inside world of Diane Keaton accurately wich means I'm now not a fan anymore !
Has Let's Just Say It Wasn't Pretty turned you off from other books in this genre?
Maybe.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Let's Just Say It Wasn't Pretty?
Where to start ?
Any additional comments?
I was convinced that the bad reviews just couldn't understand Diane Keaton...I would ! Now, I wished somebody would have said to her "Listen... " and maybe somebody had. It's a truly nauseating, namedropping, brand obsessed, lost touch if she ever had it, self-obsessed atrocity and the rare number of things worth hearing are so tainted by "it's all been said better before" and so trite that it would have been better to shut up all together.Quite shocking that publication... and boring, now that's an accomplishment !

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Who was your favorite character and why?
Drew Harmon.. have a listen how Jim Beaver narrates this badass... damned the guy is good !!!
Which character – as performed by Jim Beaver – was your favorite?
Ha! I just said it above, Drew Harmon... it sounds like sand in a coffee grinder when Jim Beaver narrates him.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I believe the book was optioned long ago and I believe the tag line was " Where Legends Die" which is also the name of the german translation, though I don't care for altering book titles in foreign countries.
Any additional comments?
I'm married to the guy who wrote it and I can tell you that a lot of things in that book are true and thoroughly researched.
