Historia
Ariel Price wakes up in Lisbon, alone. Her husband is gone—no warning, no note, not answering his phone. Something is wrong. She starts with hotel security, then the police, then the American embassy, at each confronting questions she can’t fully answer: What exactly is John doing in Lisbon? Why would he drag her along on his business trip? Who would want to harm him? And why does Ariel know so little about her new—much younger—husband?

What a let down….
Revisado: 03-06-24
Honestly I kept holding out for a better ending than what I got. I kinda struggled through this book, but I kept at it because The Expats was just SO GOOD. Not this one. Nothing seams even remotely plausible in the story.
Sigh

It’s been a while since I was so into a story. What a great plot, even better plot twist. The Robin/Strike storyline progresses very nicely as well in this book.

I will say, Tina Brown does a GREAT job narrating her book. It’s almost like listening to a lecture or overhearing someone’s conversation in a restaurant-but in a good way.

Through it all, the women's friendship has remained the gravitational center of their lives. Both women once fought to escape the neighborhood in which they grew up - a prison of conformity, violence, and inviolable taboos.

This is the weakest of the Neapolitan Novels
Revisado: 07-17-20
Obviously had to read this one as well since I read the previous 3 Ferrante novels in this series. Not sure what was annoying about Elena in this last installment. The complete lack of foresight, the ending that fell flat, Lila (and really do we know any more about Lila now? No, we probably know less even).
I was disappointed that the series ended as it did. It was not as though we needed closure, but so much effort was placed into the previous 3 books in regards to story and drama, this one was average.
Narration was great.

Ugh.... not sure. Not bad, not great.
Revisado: 07-17-20
I made it to the end of this one. LOVED The Last Mrs. Parrish. I get it. It’s a clever story line and without giving away too much, yes it’s twisted till the end. But some of the characters really need a little more development. How dumb and docile is Leo, and he’s supposed to be this amazing attorney? Piper, the cliches help but a little more depth...? (Where did the Phoenix facility come from?) Joanna’s mother, same... expected, and cliche.
I was hoping for a little more but it wasn’t bad.

Historia
In 2017, a routine network television investigation led to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood’s most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move, and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.

CAN’T STOP. LISTENING
Revisado: 11-07-19
First off-what a great job Ronan Farrow does narrating. He’s got great tone inflection, he does the accents pretty well, and he keeps the pace of information moving.
As for the meat: wow. Well written, intricately put together. It all makes sense, it’s not sensational.
Hoping for a part 2 with even more mind blowing information. Great research and well laid out. I wanted to keep listening.

AWFUL NARRATION.....awful
Revisado: 06-03-19
So i'm just going to be blunt and say the narration is REALLY bad. Apologies too Mr. Harris but this is not your forte.
It took probably 5 chapters to even remotely get interested in the story - MAINLY because the narration is so confusing. Sometimes there is a southern accent, sometimes the fake german accent of Hans Pieter, that then switches to a regular accent. Its so so hard to keep track of characters and who is saying what and who is talking.
And I think that's a main reason this book is disappointing. The story doesn't come alive from the pages. Maybe this is one better read?
I preordered this book so I'm totally let down.
Wait - and how does Cari all of a sudden know these guys are bad guys? So many random "reach" moments.....
