WOMANNNNNN grrrrrrr
Revisado: 06-08-23
I'll start with Shane East. The man can do no wrong, IMO. He cannot help that the characters he narrated were god-awful.
The FMC was whiny and a brat- her reactions, in the beginning, were warranted, but as the story went on, she didn't actually have much character growth and was completely selfish and short-sighted towards the end.
The MMC was.... a total jerk, and also somehow endearing kinda? In a weird Orc way? I don't know, He talked about plowing and his seed waaaaaay too much. I was also not a fan of the way Jewel would be totally into his "hideous" (a word that gets used far too often) face one moment, then cursing him out and plotting her revenge the next.
I love me some good monster spice and the whole 'fell in love with my kidnapper' trope, but this all felt a bit excessive. The writing in general in this book was not great.

Historia
Mariel Spark is prophesied to be the most powerful witch seen in centuries of the famed Spark family, but to the displeasure of her mother, she prefers baking to potions and gardening to hexes. When a spell to summon flour goes very wrong, Mariel finds herself staring down a demon—one she inadvertently summoned for a soul bargain. Ozroth the Ruthless is a legend among demons. Powerful and merciless, he drives hard bargains to collect mortal souls. But his deadly reputation has suffered ever since a bargain went awry—if he can strike a bargain with Mariel, he will earn it back.

Cute AF story, poor male-voice narrartion
Revisado: 04-18-23
This story is so damn cute! I love the banter between the characters (especially Oz and Mariel) and the world building. The narrator does a great job for all general narration and female-voiced characters....
That being said, her male voices are AWFUL. Not only do most of them sound the same, but they are bad enough that I kind of wanted to skip past the spicy parts (which, like, WHAT?!) because Oz's voice was so terrible and distracting from what were otherwise sexy scenes. Think 'really old, kinda-sorta British, white dude' voice. And by 'old' I mean like, not in the distinguished older man hot way, but ancient and decrepit sounding, on-his-deathbed croaky way.
The story was good enough that I persevered, but I just wanted to warn folks about the way the male voices are narrated.

Love, pain, and ink. The men of Heathens Ink Tattoo Studio have a lot to work through, but they always do it together. From Ashes - I didn't have anything to live for, until a kind stranger pulled me back from the brink. With physical and emotional scars, I have nowhere to turn now but to that same stranger who saved my life without realizing it. But as my feelings for Adam grow, will I ever be anything other than a surrogate for the brother he couldn’t save? Am I even worthy of his love?

good stories- not great narrator
Revisado: 08-31-22
I agree with some of the other sentiments on here- I miss the narrator, Cooper North, from books 1 & 2. The new narrator has a stilting way of reading, pausing in weird places that actually throws me off. He also sounds like he's trying too hard (if that makes sense? Like, his voice goes comically deep or something) when he voices Royal, which hurts my heart bc I love Royal so much. It kind of messed with the way I enjoyed the story, but I was able to get past it. I have listened to other books by Kenneth Obi and they are fine, so I'm not sure what happened here. Maybe I was just too used to Cooper from the first books?
Anyway, stories are good and the bonus content was a nice touch :)
