Historia
Aileen Henderson’s unassuming life conceals a dark past. Outside of work, she hides behind her larger-than-life best friend, Cassidy, whose constant need for attention suits Aileen—and her secrets—just fine. Until the night Aileen dies. Awakening to a new world of brutality, bloodlust, and betrayal, Aileen plots revenge against Ragnor Rayne, the monster who cursed her with the Imprint. The demon who turned her into a vampire. The man whose eyes haunt her dreams.

Started out well, devolve into YA drama
Revisado: 11-27-24
The world building was new and interesting and I was enjoying it. Until Ilene had to go through training with the vampire league she was forced into. Then it turned into high school drama as the new vampires were going through their classes and training. Complete with cliques and mean girl tactics. I gave up halfway when Ilene and “My Lord” started doing the old trope of “will they/won’t they even though they ‘hated’ each other” blah, blah, blah. Their encounters made no sense. My biggest pet peeve was all the times “My Lord” would display his obsession with Ilene in front of others and yet the author would fail to acknowledge this and write it as if they were alone. Either they did that on purpose or they failed to write a better description of the scene regarding the surroundings and the characters in it. SMH 🤦🏽♀️. I also hated when “My Lord” would grab Ilene, hold her close and display his weird obsession with her and she would get all swoony and horny when in the beginning of her story, it’s hinted that she had suffered horrible abuse and SA in her youth. I’m sorry but someone who has been through that would absolutely NOT swoon over being manhandled in such a way I don’t care how hot the guy is. That’s assault and it was a big turn off for me. I wish writers would stop “erasing” their characters’s past traumatic abuse with just one look from their hot, ripped, “alpha” MC and suddenly they are cured from all their past suffering. Nope. I’m leaving this as DNF.

Historia
Weston Belmont. The man is a shameless flirt. He oozes confidence and masculinity in a way that’s downright distracting. And in bed? He’s addictive. Everything with him is wild and impulsive and I’m desperate to regain some control. But no one has supported me like West does. And no one has ever made me feel as loved as he does either. So, while my brain says settling down with a small-town horse trainer is impossible… my heart says I’m right where I belong.

Teddy Hamilton rules.
Revisado: 09-20-24
This was just okay. I was looking to read about the difficulties of being a celebrity in the limelight who needs a break and how she navigates it. Instead, I got a 2 dimensional girl (yes, girl not a woman) with no substance, no growth and nothing about her was rooted in any sort of reality. Same for the hero. It was also obvious the author did no research on the music industry and how very intricate and challenging it is. Skylar went from media outcast to award winning artist in a blink of an eye. Yeah that’s not how that works. This was mostly pages of hot, dirty sex that we are supposed to believe is developed into a true partnership. Within months. With a single dad. Uh huh. Sure. I love a hot sex scene but I prefer to have that in a novel with an actual plot. But I’ll always listen to Teddy Hamilton regardless of the bad writing. He’s brilliant.

Historia
Being a firefighter isn’t easy. Especially for a Black woman. Working with family helps a little. But when somebody from your company doesn’t come back from a call, it’s brutal—as in, “How’m I supposed to go on?” brutal. And one death took me to a really dark place. A year later, I’m at the Pirates’ hockey training facility. Just another day on the job. Until I find a charred journal. I look inside for the owner’s name, but the words on the page punch me in the gut. It’s like reading my own thoughts. Reliving my own pain.

All the horniness was getting in the way of a good story
Revisado: 09-18-24
This was a DNF for me. The story sounded really fascinating but I couldn’t take all the “my dick is hard from her voice” and “I have to squeeze my legs tight when he looks at me” and that’s all from barely even speaking or getting to know one another! It’s not hot! It’s annoying! The fact that Adina is a firefighter was definitely something I wanted to know more about. A woman of color in a predominantly male career is interesting and I was looking forward to hearing more about it. All I got was that she was a firefighter in the same house as her dad and brother and that’s it. No description of her state of mind working along side men, facing danger and the stress of being “enough”. Nope. Just, “oh I want to climb that hot hockey player!” I got more information with the hockey player and even descriptions of hockey drills and practices! Do better! Stop insulting your readers! We’re not constantly needing a play by play of the sex moves these characters want to do to each other when they barely like each other!

I love this author and I absolutely loved this story but IMO, it wasn’t long enough. I felt like their HEA was rushed and I wish there could’ve been more details. With that said, I look forward to reading more of her books.

Historia
Justin has a curse, and thanks to a Reddit thread, it's now all over the internet. Every woman he dates goes on to find their soul mate the second they break up. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with a plan: They'll date each other and break up. Their curses will cancel each other’s out, and they’ll both go on to find the love of their lives. It’s a bonkers idea… and it just might work.

Mental health finally portrayed correctly!
Revisado: 04-14-24
Jimenez is one of my go to authors that I will purchase immediately and without knowing what the book is about. Her ability to write characters with heart, humor, intelligence and human flaws is what makes her books so wonderfully engaging and entertaining. Justin and Emma’s chemistry jumps out at you right from the start. Their banter and connection made me smile, giggle, laugh out loud and sigh like a lovesick teenager. Add in real life sticky situations and family/home-life drama and I could not put this book down. There were a lot of mental health issues and scenes that I found to be very much the reality for any and all human beings walking around on this great big planet. It’s just a real human experience and Jimenez writes about it perfectly. I really appreciate the time she took to portray mental health in various forms. From unrecognized issues some characters refused to acknowledge therefore causing chaos and problems to all who encountered them to characters who understood that they were feeling triggered and confused and knew they needed help and took steps to help themselves. I get angry at authors who write plot lines where the hero suffers a traumatic childhood and gets “saved” when they meet “the one”. 😠 So unrealistic and frankly disturbing. Not to mention not romantic at all. This sweet story has it all: a meet-cute, clever banter, romance, family drama, past trauma, best friend squad, and an ugly rescue dog. That’s all you need.

Historia
I knew fixing up my life with a fresh start on the hobby ranch I inherited in Hell’s Bells, Wyoming, would come with challenges. Things like snow. Wildlife. Local gossip about why my daughter and I are here. But the biggest challenge? My surly new tenant. He’s like a bear. Fascinating from a distance, but don’t get too close, or he’ll bite. His personality should be a good thing. I have no need of a new man in my life. But he’s not only my tenant; he’s also my daughter’s math teacher and soccer coach.

DNF - got tired of private parts talking
Revisado: 09-01-23
This could’ve been a fun read. But I got tired of always hearing the inner dialogues of both characters arguing with their private parts. An occasional “my ovaries high fived watching him be sweet to my child” or a “down boy, not during parent teacher conference with my student’s mom!” is funny and hilarious. But when it’s constant vag and peen arguments with a full grown adult’s inner dialogue because they’re feeling like horney teenagers, it’s too distracting from the actual storyline and I give up.

I loved this new story
Revisado: 07-13-23
It’s rare to come across characters that are older that I can relate to but that’s exactly what this story was. I absolutely loved it and although I’m not a gamer, I related so much to Aiden. In fact, I learned that the way I feel about relationships is exactly how Aiden feels! I feel so seen! I’m also an empty nester so I relate to “boggy” too! I can’t wait to read more Cathy Yardley!

I really enjoyed a more mature relationship story however the end was very abrupt and I felt like there were more questions left unanswered than I would’ve liked.
