Historia
Two retired Texas Rangers, Captains Woodrow Call and Augustus "Gus" McCrae, lead a cattle drive from the small town of Lonesome Dove to the unsettled Montana territories. On their grueling journey, they are joined by Joshua Deets, a Black scout and former Ranger, Jake Spoon, a fugitive, and Newt Dobbs, a 17-year-old boy who may have family ties to Call. Richly authentic, beautifully written, always dramatic, Lonesome Dove will make listeners laugh and weep, dream and remember.

Historia
To eight-year-old Bunny Morison, his mother is an angelic comforter in whose absence nothing is real or alive. To his older brother, Robert, his mother is someone he must protect, especially since the deadly influenza epidemic of 1918 is ravaging their small Midwestern town. To James Morison, his wife, Elizabeth, is the center of a life that would disintegrate all too suddenly were she to disappear. Through the eyes of these characters, William Maxwell creates a sensitive portrait of an American family and of the complex woman who is its emotional pillar.

Very moving story, beautifully narrated.
Revisado: 11-20-18
My husband and I both thought Dan Stevens did a wonderful job bringing the characters to life both in this book and in the earlier story, My Dear, I Wanted to Tell You. We really cared about their feelings and what happened to them. These books really helped us to understand the horrors of World War I and its aftermath by giving it a human face.

Historia
Set during the time of the Napoleonic Wars, this classic gives a satirical picture of a worldly society. The novel revolves around the exploits of the impoverished but beautiful and devious Becky Sharp who craves wealth and a position in society. Calculating and determined to succeed, she charms, deceives and manipulates everyone she meets. A novel of early 19th-century English society, it takes its title from the place designated as the centre of human corruption in John Bunyan's 17th-century allegory.

John Castle's narration is wonderful
Revisado: 05-19-16
John Castle makes every character come alive with his wonderful narration. His timing and inflection really emphasized how funny so much of Thackeray's story is, which I had forgotten. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book; it enlivened many long drives in the car.
