Hard Listen
Revisado: 03-19-25
This book could've been half the time had Dr. Hardy, as they say, stuck to the script. The end chapter chats with Dan Sullivan were grueling to listen to. The 'uhuhus'' and the repeating of stories was unnecessary. It's clear that Dr. Hardy and Dan are dear friends and I love that for them.
I will have to listen to it again and skip over those chats to grasp the message - truly painful to listen to.
OR - relocate those chats at the end and coach Dan on speaking.

Historia
Alice's journey begins as all good journeys do: hitting on the sales guy at REI. After a tumultuous breakup, a quick career transition, family upheaval, and a sobriety journey that didn't fix her life quite as much as she expected it to, Alice decides that the only way to solve all her problems is to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. But as she begins preparing for the months-long quest, she realizes the answers she's seeking might not be on top of a snow-covered mountain. Especially since she just learned there was snow in California.

A surpringly great listen. Narrator inflection found me laughing outloud. I cleaned out my pantry as I was taken on a journey of a charcuterie self reflection, could see myself in her journey and resolve, at the end, it wasn't about the 'thing' (don't wanna spoil) she thought. THANK YOU for this story!! HUGS 🤗

This unique and fundamentally liberating book shows us that examining our attitudes toward money - earning it, spending it, and giving it away - can offer surprising insight into our lives, our values, and the essence of prosperity. Lynne Twist, a global activist and fundraiser, has raised more than $150 million for charitable causes. Through personal stories and practical advice, she demonstrates how we can replace feelings of scarcity, guilt, and burden with experiences of sufficiency, freedom, and purpose. In this Nautilus Award-winning book, Twist shares from her own life, a journey illuminated by remarkable encounters with the richest and poorest.

Meh...Lacks application. It's ok
Revisado: 06-02-23
I am a firm believer that you can really take SOMETHING away from everything, even a nugget. That said, there were some very strong opinions (emphasize OPINIONS) presented as facts. Furthermore, this was more a memoir of her personal journey with very few suggestions of practical application. I appreciated the extreme articulation of the author as she read it and (my opinion) was almost unrelatable because it sounds a touch snooty (again. opinion) I take away that money is fluid. Def her platform/plug to aide with The Hunger Project 😬

Content ok | Voice....mmmm
Revisado: 03-29-23
I believe this is better suited for a hand-held versus listening. I heard their interview on Jay Shetty: On Purpose Podcast and they seemed delightful. However, I'm learning that 'audio voices' and 'real, in-person voices' are very different. While I'm certain Tanya and Raquell are delightful in person, their voices on this recording grated on my nerves. The positivity also seems a bit forced - I know, I know 'The Sunshine Mind'. I pushed through though. My opinion of their voices is not a reflection of who they are as people - I don't even know them. However, if you suffer from listening to grating, valley girl emphasis - go buy it and listen to it with your own voice. HUGS y'all

Revisado: 09-23-22
If you're curious and want personal, relatable and practical application about the Buddhist practice this would be a fantastic resource. Douglas' voice - SO soothing, so clear. I am actually going BACK through and taking notes. This is more than just about Buddhism. Douglas is very clear that this is his take on Buddhism. He uses personal stories, makes it clear when it's his opinion, and there is nothing pushy or conversion-y.

You CAN Gleam SOMEthing
Revisado: 05-26-22
This book reminded me of when someone is in the throws of learning and they turn around and teach their friend. Again, her voice (we later learn she was coached to deepen her voice...ugh) sounds like she's trying too hard. Told this was a 'page turner'...meh. I would rather have a cup of coffee with Evy and hear these accounts v hear another book read by her. I did enjoy what she learned from her 'charges' (security details). Overall, fine.

Historia
Women get mixed messages about how to succeed at work, and research shows that much of the career advice aimed at men doesn't even work for women. We’re left wondering: How do you say no without being labeled difficult? How do you get paid what you’re worth? Should you go for that next big promotion, even though it’ll impact your family? Known for being 2018’s most-booked female speaker in the world and now a nationally-syndicated talk show host, Mel Robbins answers these questions and more with research-based strategies that you can put into action immediately.
