Historia
Two families, who would otherwise never have come together, meet by chance at the Baltimore airport: the Donaldsons, a very American couple, and the Yazdans, Maryam's fully assimilated son and his attractive Iranian wife. Each couple is awaiting the arrival of an adopted infant daughter from Korea. After the instant babies from distant Asia are delivered, Bitsy Donaldson impulsively invites the Yazdans to celebrate.

Zzzzzzzzzz
Revisado: 07-18-06
Dull, Dull, Dull-- I had read the first several reviews before I purchased this and was excited to read my first Anne Tyler novel. Based on this, I doubt I would read another. What could have been a fascinating look into the lives of families with foreign adopted children, was just an endless account of the lives of uninteresting and irritating people.

Historia
Sweet and Low is the amazing, bittersweet, hilarious story of an American family and its patriarch, a short-order cook named Ben Eisenstadt who, in the years after World War II, invented the sugar packet and Sweet'N Low, converting his Brooklyn cafeteria into a factory and amassing the great fortune that would destroy his family.

Leaves a bitter aftertaste
Revisado: 04-30-06
I was so looking forward to this story, but have been quite disappointed. The author goes off on so many tangents which ultimately don't add to the story. It feels like he had enough material for a really great investigative piece in a magazine or newspaper, but padded it out to book length. Also, the author's biases, while natural, are all too evident and therefore, distracting. Just okay.
