Historia
Artemio Volpe has been crowned king of Espher, restoring his ancient line to power—and inheriting the worst crisis the kingdom has ever faced. The Arazi Dragon Lords descend from the north. With flame and blade, they will purge all in their path to see the shadebound witch Orsina destroyed and their prophecies fulfilled. From the south march all the armies of the God-Emperor of Agrant, legions of soldiers backed by the unfathomable power of the living god himself.

Great performance of an OK finish
Revisado: 08-07-23
I really enjoyed the previous books from this series. I was very much looking forward to this book. Tim Gerard Reynolds does an amazing job as always and adds a lot of gravitas to everything happening. Unfortunately, the story really seemed to need it. It felt like most of the character interactions were completely irrational screaming sessions; everyone is just constantly talking past each other. You could tell that the author wanted everything to end, but it felt accomplished by first destroying everything we thought we knew about the way the characters previously behaved. Some of the changes are earned, but others seemed crazy. Harmony, in particular, spent most of the book having childish tantrums. Her brother has turned into a complete sociopath and had just lost any semblance of good that might have been there. Maybe I just missed a lot, but something felt off.
If you love arguments where neither person can effectively articulate their position and are willing to completely abandon previous feelings of love and respect in order to callously gaslight each other, this book is for you!

Narration was strange. Story was ok.
Revisado: 08-28-22
I enjoyed the end more than the beginning. The narration was stilted. Main character was unlikable. The world is interesting. Going through this series to get to the next series in the same world that is narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds who is always the best. On this book, there were strange pauses throughout that were distracting. The narrator does a very dry, almost monotone read.

Historia
Earth and its society have been changed irrevocably in the aftermath of Ender Wiggin's victory over the Formics. The unity forced upon the warring nations by an alien enemy has shattered. Nations are rising again, seeking territory and influence, and most of all, seeking to control the skills and loyalty of the children from the Battle School. But one person has a better idea. Peter Wiggin, Ender's older, more ruthless, brother, sees that any hope for the future of Earth lies in restoring a sense of unity and purpose. And he has an irresistible call on the loyalty of Earth's young warriors.

spotty recording
Revisado: 01-02-15
This production house is typically amazing, but there are some strange issues with this reading. I think the readers must have been mispronouncing "hegemon" because the word is dubbed over in a really jarring way throughout the production. There were places were they couldn't agree on how to pronounce Achilles. The audio quality also seemed of compared to previous entries in the series.
I enjoyed more time with these characters very much. A few times I had to roll my eyes because the author's personal political evolution is shining through in ways unseen in previous works. Bean's exploration of the morality of abortion as an example. Didn't stop me from enjoying the story. Anyone who made it this far in the series has no reason to stop here.
