Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Fun adventure
Revisado: 06-27-24
i thought it was very engaging; fun to listen to. To me, it felt like a “young adult” novel, but much more entertaining/gritty than the ones i’ve read recently. It’s set in the first person. It seems like a PG (the cussing/sexual references make it more PG-13/R) fairy tale. i thought the audiobook aspect was really, really good; i thought the voices and non-verbal noises felt perfect the way they were narrated. 4.8/5

Then, one morning, she is kidnapped, interviewed, and hired as an administrative assistant by the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection. Superheroes for hire, using their powers for good. THE BIG AXE

i thought it was fun and easy to listen to, and i thought this take on superhero “genre” was both funny and interesting.

Interesting, subtle, romantic & holistically emotional
Revisado: 01-01-23
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I’m not much of a reader but I kept being enthralled by the story. The short length (to me) helped. I liked the characters & I felt the performer’s voices made them feel even realer to me. I liked how the author described what happened to the characters, what they did & how they felt. Depicting their thought processes appealed to this old “over-thinker.” In my view, older kids & adults can enjoy it. It depicts romance & relationships & I like how it shows them. I think any relationship can add to or replace something in life. But it’s still up to the character to choose & the process may be frightening, wonderful, uncertain, deceitful, sensual, truthful; many things…The author showed showed several facets relationships are based on. I thought the short stories she added later (this edition has ‘em; 2009 was the year I believe they were both finally in) were definitely necessary. I liked it more than I thought I would.
