Historia
In Not That Sweet, Stephanie candidly shares her story of growing up in a chaotic home, shaped by a police sergeant father seeking to “fix” her defiance and anger at home by sending her away. As she navigates her unconventional childhood, listeners are invited to explore a pressing question: Is she a ‘troubled teen,’ reacting to an unhealthy environment, or both?

Powerful Memoir
Revisado: 12-01-24
The author shares childhood experiences that could easily break a person apart. She boldly embraces her vulnerability in sharing these stories. The beauty of the book is that the author finds her way through all the turmoil, takes her power back and lives an authentic life. It’s a hopeful story for those who have lived through dysfunctional families, or been labeled the black sheep. So very relatable.

Historia
When it was first published, Intuitive Eating was revolutionary in its anti-dieting approach. The authors, both prominent health professionals in the field of nutrition and eating disorders, urge listeners to embrace the goal of developing body positivity and reconnecting with one’s internal wisdom about eating—to unlearn everything they were taught about calorie-counting and other aspects of diet culture and to learn about the harm of weight stigma. Today, their message is more relevant and pressing than ever.

Both Practical and Brilliant
Revisado: 05-07-24
I wish I had come upon this book decades ago. It contains common sense, and supportive, nonjudgmental advice. I hope more parents will listen so that children may able to live their lives listening to their bodies and turning away from dirt culture. Dieting is a multimillion dollar business, and it is harming our population in many ways. This book shows us how to return to a natural relationship with food, where we can take pleasure in it and allow it to nourish us.

Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.
