Historia
Toby is a happy-go-lucky charmer who's dodged a scrape at work and is celebrating with friends when the night takes a turn that will change his life - he surprises two burglars who beat him and leave him for dead. Struggling to recover from his injuries, beginning to understand that he might never be the same man again, he takes refuge at his family's ancestral home to care for his dying uncle Hugo. Then a skull is found in the trunk of an elm tree in the garden - and as detectives close in, Toby is forced to face the possibility that his past may not be what he has always believed.

Worst Tana French novel ever
Revisado: 12-24-18
In the past I have really enjoyed Tana French's novels, but this one I really hated! I kept thinking I would turn it back in, but for some reason I kept hoping it would get better. It was too long, too dreary, too wordy, and too dark. Very disappointed.

Terrible ending
Revisado: 12-04-08
I listened to this book which took quite a long time, and I really enjoyed the story of the dogs and how Edgar taught them to learn sign, and so much of the emotion surrounding this family. I even enjoyed the parts that seemed unreal, like Edgar seeing his father and the old man. In fact, even though it was very long and at times tedious, I liked up it until the very end. I was shocked and horrified at the way the author ended the book. It really ruined it for me and for others I have spoken to.

Historia
Liz and Sarabeth were childhood neighbors, brought as close as sisters by the suicide of Sarabeth's mother when the girls were just 16. In the decades that followed - through Liz's marriage and Sarabeth's attempts to make a happy life for herself - their relationship remained a source of continuity and strength. But when Liz's adolescent daughter enters dangerous waters that threaten to engulf the family, the fault lines in the women's friendship are revealed.

Depressing
Revisado: 09-14-07
I found this book read very slow and was a very depressing picture of a difficult set of circumstances. I also found it rather unrealistic in that no one seemed to be able to communicate with one another.
