Historia
When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, Cornelia Fort was already in the air. At 22, Fort had escaped Nashville’s debutante scene for a fresh start as a flight instructor in Hawaii. She and her student were in the middle of a lesson when the bombs began to fall, and they barely made it back to ground. Still, when the US Army Air Forces put out a call for women pilots to aid the war effort, Fort was one of the first to respond. She became one of just over 1,100 women from across the nation to make it through the Army’s rigorous selection process and earn her silver wings.

We need to teach more of these stories!
Revisado: 10-09-24
I loved this book! As a flight nurse I cannot fathom someone telling me I cannot work because I am a woman or tell me I can’t do my job while on my period. We have people who are alive now as I am writing this 80 years later to say we need to go back to this society.
The author did a wonderful job researching this book. I am looking forward to view her website for more information on these woman.
It is depressing to hear about how one of the leaders was willing to sabotage the entire group if she was not allowed to be the ring leader.
The performance was good, minus in thing. The reader has a beautiful voice, but you can tell she had to voice over many areas and when she did she came back with a voice that sounds like emperor palpatine telling luke sky walker that the death star is fully operational. It was very distracting.

Historia
The daughter of immigrants and civil rights activists, Vice President Kamala Harris was raised in an Oakland, California, community that cared deeply about social justice. As she rose to prominence as one of the political leaders of our time, her experiences would become her guiding light as she grappled with an array of complex issues and learned to bring a voice to the voiceless. In The Truths We Hold, she reckons with the big challenges we face together.

Learning about a presidential candidate.
Revisado: 08-03-24
When I picked this up, she was still a VP candidate. I had listened to JD Vance’s Hillbilly Elegy prior. The stark comparison between these two is astounding. This is a composed human who is strong, determined and eloquent.
Her story is touching. Between family and her professional journey. I hope it will inspire more good people to be a mentor, do public service and share their story with others.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Good story.
Revisado: 07-26-24
The story itself, about a boy struggling with family that has poor coping mechanisms and substance abuse is very familiar. I relate to a lot of it (however my family’s addiction was primarily alcohol). I am reading this shortly after he became a VP candidate for the 2024 election. It is nice to humanize a person running for office.
He does a good job reading his book. It is nice to listen to the author.
A part I didn’t care for is when he used a political example, the pay day loan bill, in his book. He was saying while working as an aide he was proud for his rep for voting no against the bill to save Pay Day loans. The loans were not truly under fire, it was their unethical practices that were causing a larger burden on people who have to use the loans. I feel that his interpretation was misrepresented the bill and was one sided.
I personally don’t think the concept of praising social capital. Saying things like “it is better to be lucky than good” while getting a highly competitive job shows that “it is not what you know, but who you know” out weighs merit.

Written very well
Revisado: 07-17-24
I had purchased this book after listening to Serial season 2. The authors are very thorough and this is well written. I don’t wish to give away key details… the take aways: It is amazing how poor communication, misinformation and political games have been played as this all went down. It makes me distrust cable media even more and hate how elections, political parties and general public can be easily persueded. I am amazed at the efforts his family went to try to save him. My heart goes out to everyone affected during those five years.

Historia
A hilarious and emotional personal account of the life, times, mistakes, and crippling codependence of comedian, producer, director, actress, and writer Whitney Cummings. Full of intellect, pathos, and profundity, I'm Fine...and Other Lies is, in Whitney's words, her first book, which means her last date. With her signature incendiary edge and self-deprecation, Whitney comes clean about what has shaped her into the trailblazing comic that she is today.

A wonderful telling of a horrible time and of a love story in a terrible place
Revisado: 07-10-23
It didn’t take long to make it through this book. The author did well telling the story and representing the people in it. These are stories that need to be heard. We need to be reminded of the evil we are capable of as well as our humanity. My only hope is I have a fraction of resilience that these people have had.

Revisado: 07-04-23
Interesting story. It keeps you wanting to listen. This is the first I have listened with more than one voice actor. I like the set up. However, I saw some problems with the medical/legal how things were handled. Without giving away any of the story. Secondly, the end was abrupt. I am sure, especially with the reviews, there will be another season.

By age thirty, Stephanie Foo was successful on paper: She had her dream job as an award-winning radio producer at This American Life and a loving boyfriend. But behind her office door, she was having panic attacks and sobbing at her desk every morning. After years of questioning what was wrong with herself, she was diagnosed with complex PTSD—a condition that occurs when trauma happens continuously, over the course of years.

Being our voice
Revisado: 05-10-23
What a wonderful written book. She is eloquent and does a wonderful job with incorporating studies and stats throughout her story. Story? No, her life.
The first 35 minutes I listened to the book, I, while sobbing texted my friend who recommended this book to me: I have never related so closely to someone’s story before.
The rest of this book was amazing. And if you are struggling as an adult who was raised by very abusive parents, I think this book will be a good read.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Wonderfully done
Revisado: 01-31-23
I enjoyed reading this book. Harry did a wonderful job writing it and I loved hearing it in his own words. I hope he considers writing another book. It gives insight into what was going on and how much Harry’s mother’s death has effected him. I am glad he stepped away. I wonder if England can tell the difference from news and a tabloid?
