This Audiobook Is Worth Your Time!
Revisado: 05-25-24
I’ve been writing for eleven years, for work and fun. I’ve written four novels for someone else but never been able to finish my own. I’ve read and studied so many books on story structure—some of them I’ve really struggled to finish reading (never a good sign)—this is by far the most readable, concise, and helpful guide on structure I’ve read so far. I wish I had it ten years ago. I not only finished it, but have started re-reading it and frequently reference it. I finished the outline for a new story I am working on and have started drafting; it’s the most confident I have ever felt in a story of my own. If you are someone who needs help *finishing* a story, then I’d say read this book for starters. Joe Bunting also has a website called The Write Practice that I’ve been using (which is how I found this book). When I finish my book (I feel more confident than ever that I will), I’ll update this review.

Historia
Fourteen-year-old Mona isn't like the wizards charged with defending the city. She can't control lightning or speak to water. Her familiar is a sourdough starter, and her magic only works on bread. She has a comfortable life in her aunt's bakery making gingerbread men dance. But Mona's life is turned upside down when she finds a dead body on the bakery floor. An assassin is stalking the streets of Mona's city, preying on magic folk, and it appears that Mona is his next target. And in an embattled city suddenly bereft of wizards, the assassin may be the least of Mona's worries.

Wonderful Story; Excellent Narration
Revisado: 12-29-22
I started reading “A Wizards Guide…” by checking it out from the library—and ended it with both an Audible and Kindle copy of this book. That’s how much I loved this story. Also, Patricia Santomasso is such a great narrator—she brings Mona (and every other character, especially Knackering Molly) to life, SO well.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

If the premise alone interests you…
Revisado: 07-01-21
If the premise is enough to peak your interest, I recommend listening to this novel. I honestly feel like it changed my outlook on so many things in life. Nora is a very endearing character who I felt a really deep connection to—especially thanks to Carey Mulligan, the narrator (phenomenal). I haven’t finished a novel this quickly since early 2020…I feel like that says it all ha.

I Wish All "Help" Books Were Like This One...
Revisado: 04-20-20
Chris Fox is super to-the-point in this quick listen. There is so much valuable information in this book; I've listened to it three times (and will likely continue to listen whenever I need a refresh).
The narrator, Nathan Agin, is awesome!

Historia
Galaxy “Alex” Stern is the most unlikely member of Yale’s freshman class. Raised in the Los Angeles hinterlands by a hippie mom, Alex dropped out of school early and into a world of shady drug-dealer boyfriends, dead-end jobs, and much, much worse. In fact, by age twenty, she is the sole survivor of a horrific, unsolved multiple homicide. Some might say she’s thrown her life away. But at her hospital bed, Alex is offered a second chance: to attend one of the world’s most prestigious universities on a full ride. What’s the catch, and why her?

*On The Narration: Lauren Fortgang and Michael David Axtell do an AMAZING job. Also, there is an interview between Lauren Fortgang and Leigh Bardugo at the end of the audiobook that is really really good :)

I Loved A Gentleman’s Guide...
Revisado: 03-21-19
I fell in love with the first book in this series. I absolutely loved Felicity in A Gentleman’s Guide...and I love her even more within her own story. Mackenzie Lee’s characters are so relatable and well developed, I feel like they’re my friends—or family, even. No spoilers: both Monty and Percy make an appearance in this novel. And we get to see them from Felicity’s point of view which is endearing and unique and perfect. I both read the book and listened to the audio—and the voice actress, Moira Quirk, is amazing! I loved this novel. 5 stars all around.

Henry "Monty" Montague doesn't care that his roguish passions are far from suitable for the gentleman he was born to be. But as Monty embarks on his grand tour of Europe, his quests for pleasure and vice are in danger of coming to an end. Not only does his father expect him to take over the family's estate upon his return, but Monty is also nursing an impossible crush on his best friend and traveling companion, Percy.

I Have No Words...But I'll Try
Revisado: 09-22-17
The writing is to die for. Honestly, every single sentence is laced with emotion and is so cleverly put together I found myself literally reacting out loud. I laughed, cried and sighed along with the characters. It all felt so real and I cannot wait for the next installment.
The characters! Oh I can't. I love them so much that nothing I attempt to say could possibly measure up to how I feel.
And finally...that ending. I won't give anything away. But damn.
Mackenzie Lee you have raised the bar for all adventure/romance novels in my eyes. Christian Coulson, your performance (narrating the audiobook) was enrapturing and you've absolutely ruined me because I don't know if I can possibly enjoy another audiobook without your presence. Thank you both for such an amazing ride!

Masterfully Crafted Sequel To Six Of Crows
Revisado: 06-22-17
I've never before read a duology, and I have to say...this series sets the bar incredibly high for me. I have fallen so madly in love with this story, these characters and with Leigh Bardugo's writing. Every single chapter of this book leaves you wanting more. Every story is so intricate and heart wrenching. I loved this book. It was the perfect continuation of Six Of Crows and I can only hope we get to revisit Ketterdam, and the fabulous cast of characters in this series, in the future.
