Nate has his hands full trying to get justice for his client in this one. His client is a little short of a phi beta kappa, and is unable to help with his own defense. How will he manage to find a way? Worth a read to find out. Good narrator. Cheers, Ken

Historia
I met West Haven when I was eight years old. He taught me to play poker when I was nine, and we made paper airplanes together when I was eleven. He kissed me when I was sixteen. He was the best part about my family’s summer vacations to Montana. He was the boy who stole my heart. I was twenty-three when life ripped us apart. Years later, I’m breaking my vow and returning to the ranch, not as a guest but its new owner. West might want me gone, but even he has to admit the only way to save his family’s legacy is with my help.

Third rate love story-poor narration
Revisado: 03-29-25
Unless you are longing for extended descriptions of sexual encounters, I suggest you pass on this one. I should have done more research prior to choosing. I was in a hurry. It was a short book so I decided to finish instead of returning it. The female narration was muffled and hard to understand unless the volume was cranked up. Crisper articulation would help. I have a short list of least favorites, but this one managed to qualify to be on it. Cheers, Ken

Historia
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

If you have an interest in chess and you understand the board well enough to follow audio chess piece moves, you will have a special appreciation for the novel. If not, it will still keep you turning pages. The crime, and as a result the trial are unusual. It's a worthy read. The narrator speaks as if she is whispering and telling a secret. I found it somewhat distracting. Cheers, Ken

Historia
The office of the public defender is not known as a training ground for bright young litigators. Clay Carter has been there too long and, like most of his colleagues, dreams of a better job in a real firm. When he reluctantly takes the case of a young man charged with a random street killing, he assumes it is just another of the many senseless murders that hit DC every week. As he digs into the background of his client, Clay stumbles on a conspiracy too horrible to believe.

Revisado: 06-02-24
No mysteries in this story. Easy money, greed, phony relationships and totally predictable story line. Easy to follow even if you skip a chapter or two. Can't imagine it took long to write. A disappointment, but one of his few. Cheers, Ken

Historia
Alice has always wanted to be a writer. Her talent is innate, but her stories remain safe and detached, until a devastating event breaks her heart open, and she creates a stunning debut novel. Her words, in turn, find their way to readers, from a teenager hiding her homelessness, to a free diver pushing himself beyond endurance, an artist furious at the world around her, a bookseller in search of love, a widower rent by grief. Each one is drawn into Alice’s novel; each one discovers something different that alters their perspective, and presents new pathways forward for their lives.

Collection of unremarkable short stories
Revisado: 05-09-24
This is a series of short stories "lightly" linked to a fictitious novel entitled "Theo". Each short story poses a unique perspective because Theo (the fictitious novel) is viewed by different people. Ergo, the title of this book "No Two Persons" fits the theme.
Different readers help to support the differing views of Theo. Since each short story provides rave reviews for Theo, I found myself wishing I was reading the fictitious "Theo" instead of the real "No Two Persons".
The short stories themselves caused frequent nodding off and lack of attention. I have two remarkable daughters which often helps me to understand the woman's perspective. But even that failed to keep me focused. This book was hard to finish. No drama, no excitement, no mystery...but then again "no two persons" will come away with the same view. Cheers

Very well done. Will look for more from Kate.
Revisado: 01-26-24
Kate Quinn has unforgettable characters who are well developed. The women have roles well beyond typical sex. They have careers, jobs and dreams. The men are important to the story line, but the women are the major characters. Kate has done the research that adds recognizable detail to the history, piloting and locations. I like the way she starts every chapter with date. Makes it easy to track your progress as you take breaks in your listening. Cheers, Ken
