Historia
For well over twenty years, Poe Ballantine traveled America, taking odd jobs, living in small rooms, and wondering the big whys. At age 46, he finally settled with his Mexican immigrant wife in Chadron, Nebraska, where they had a son who was red-flagged as autistic. Poe published four books about his experiences as a wanderer and his observations of America.

Great title; insighful memoir

It is all about Ballantine and not the murder
Revisado: 09-21-14
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Poor narration by the author and a self indulgent focus distracts from the key interest in the book.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Poe Ballantine?
Poe should have simply sought training before being a narrator. Just a few lessons and it could have saved us all a lot of pain.
Could you see Love and Terror on the Howling Plains of Nowhere: A Memoir being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
The central character is not that interesting. The murder is the focus so a movie would need to focus on the murder and not the author.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Even suitable for neuro-typicals
Revisado: 05-17-14
If you could sum up The Martian in three words, what would they be?
The detail in the first few chapters made me feel that Bray had Aspergers but I got into the technical swing and as the human story developed I enjoyed its complexity. None the less this book is a wet dream for anyone with Aspergers.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The main character Mark is colourful and witty but some of the side characters back on earth give it a depth that moves beyond a simple adventure story.
What does R. C. Bray bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The humour is the clear standout and is balanced well with the drama.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Very funny in places. I listened to the last part in a long block and felt like I was one of the millions of the powerless onlookers on earth.
Any additional comments?
Absolutely the best book I have listened to in the last 12 months.
It is very visual so you know it would be an awesome film but it would never be as good as the technical detail would all be scripted out and will be a variant on Gravity.
