Historia
In December 2016, the world was shaken by the sudden deaths of Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds, two unspeakable losses. The stunned public turned for solace to Debbie’s only remaining child, Todd Fisher. The son of "America’s Sweethearts" Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, Todd grew up amid the glamorous wealth and pretense of Hollywood. Thanks to his mother, Todd remained down to earth, his own man, but always close to his cherished mom, and to his sister through her meteoric rise to stardom and her struggle with demons that never diminished her humor, talent, or spirit.

What?
Revisado: 07-11-19
I am so confused by all these gushing positive reviews. That was why I stuck with it for as long as I did, until I just couldn't take it anymore. This seemed less of a tribute to Debbie, and Carrie, and more of a way for Todd to toot his own horn, over, and over again. And the more he sung his own praises, the more I could not stand the sound of his voice. I finally had to just give up. Carrie was the writer in the family, so if you want more of an inside look (with tons of hilarity) just get one of her books.

Historia
In this intimate, haunting, literary memoir read by the author, an American icon tells her story for the first time, in her own gorgeous words - about a challenging and lonely childhood, the craft that helped her find her voice, and a powerful emotional legacy that shaped her journey as a daughter and a mother.

Very long hate letter to the step father.
Revisado: 10-14-18
I know this will sound harsh, but...we get it, you were abused. To hold on to this amount of hate for all this time must be incredibly painful, and hopefully this will help Sally rid herself of some of the demons, but it's complete overkill in this memior. Every time I go to listen I was hoping the stories of how awful the stepfather was would be wrapped up and it could move on to other aspects of an extrordinary life, but I just can't continue. It's just making me depressed.

I don't get it
Revisado: 08-30-18
I rarely give a book this low of a rating. I just simply didn't get this book. It wasn't a mystery because there are no clues to try and figure out the 'who done it', and it's certainly not a thriller. I also thought the author did a terrible job representing a character with supposed Bipolar mental illness. This book literally put me to sleep, and I had a tough time getting to the end which was nonclimatic, and frankly dull. There seems to be all these authors coming out with these books, with supposed twists and turns, and readers are jumping on the band wagon and giving them all glowing reviews. I don't get it.

Beloved comedian Paula Poundstone conducts a series of "thoroughly unscientific" experiments to find out, offering herself up as a guinea pig and recording her data for the benefit of all humankind. Armed with her unique brand of self-deprecating wit and the scientific method, in each chapter Paula tries out a different get-happy hypothesis.

Such a delight
Revisado: 08-01-18
I love Paula Poundstone and was anxious to hear what she had been up to after she made tabloid news years ago for an unfortunate choice. She is still hilariously funny with a healthy dose of vulnerability. You can't help but to love her and her quest for happiness. I adored every single second of this book, and will now go back and read all of her books. My hope is she will continue to make a come back and I'd love to see her in a sitcom or movie. Her generous, kind spirit and dedication to her kids will win anyone over. Grab this book if you want your own dose of happiness.

Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she's thinking. Why the raves?
Revisado: 07-31-18
I don't get the raves about this book. It was okay, at best. I may have even liked it better if I hadn't gone in with such high hopes. I was rooting for Eleanor, but as the book went on and on and on, I found myself liking her less and less. I kept falling asleep while listening and struggling to finally wrap the story up. The end offered no real surprises, or even a satisfying conclusion. I'll be curious to see if they make it into a movie, because I think a movie may be better than the book. Just not one I'd recommend.

I liked this book fine up until the ridiculously creepy ending then I thought, really, that was it? It goes so far off the tracks as for being believable, then draws out the end for what seems like forever. What a shame.

Utterly torturous.
Revisado: 05-01-18
Remember when you had to write a report in school that had to be a certain number of words so you squeeze in as many unnecessary words as possible to meet that requirement? This is how this book feels. This book is not a mystery and seems to have absolutely no point. I kept waiting for a twist, but it's exactly what it seems. The author drags us through the perspectives of each of these one dimensional characters that drone on and on ad nauseam. If I had to write everything that was wrong with this book, then I'd be droning on for pages. I'll stop here, and just tell you not to waste a moment of your time on this complete dud.

Revisado: 09-30-17
I feel honored to have had Ms. Harpham share her family's heart warming yet at times harrowing journey with us the readers. This is a book you won't want to put down as you follow the incredible story of our wonderful little Gracie through her heroic fight for life. What a spectacular tale of finding magic and awe in even the darkest places. This book will stay with you long after you put it down.
