Historia
1333. Edward III is at war with Scotland. Nineteen-year-old Sir Harry de Lyon yearns to prove himself and jumps at the chance when a powerful English baron, William Montagu, invites him on a secret mission with a dozen elite knights. They ride north, to a crumbling Scottish keep, capturing a feral, half-starved boy within and putting the other inhabitants to the sword. But nobody knows why the flower of English knighthood snuck over the border to capture a savage, dirty teenage boy. Montagu gives the boy to Harry as his squire, with only two rules.

Great character development, compelling story.
Revisado: 08-19-24
I listened to this and was a tiny bit on the fence about its validity but… immediately started to listen to it all over again and confirmed that it provides characters I care about and a couple of story lines that come together really well and held my interest. Overall I really enjoyed this book and it was one of those situations where I was sad to have it end the second time around. I’d definitely recommend this book if you’re looking for good writing, sexy parts and good character development.

Historia
Gal’s destiny has always been clear: Complete his training at the military academy, prove his worth as a royal successor, and ascend to the galactic throne. When a failed assassination plot against Gal sends him and Ettian - his infuriatingly enticing roommate - on a mad dash through the stars, Gal’s plans are momentarily disrupted. But he was born to rule the Umber Empire, and with Ettian by his side, nothing will stop him from returning home and crushing the growing insurgency threatening his family’s power.

Great second book in the Trilogy
Revisado: 12-05-23
I’m totally invested in this series. I’m kind of a hard sell… I have to connect with the characters pretty quick which happened in book 1. After reeling over book 1’s bombastic ending I stopped my vehicle and downloaded book 2 and 3. Book 2 keeps the cadence going alongside effective volleying, I gave up predicting what was going to happen because I was to often wrong… so I just went for the ride. I just finished book 2 and instead of jumping into 3, I’m listening to 1 again. I find these characters refreshing, completely believable and the story genuinely compelling and exciting.

Historia
Ettian's life was shattered when the merciless Umber Empire invaded his world. He's spent seven years putting himself back together under its rule, joining an Umber military academy and becoming the best pilot in his class. Even better, he's met Gal - his exasperating and infuriatingly enticing roommate who's made the academy feel like a new home.

Had to remind myself to breathe
Revisado: 10-07-23
Another rollercoaster that is so prevalent in this series and done well. This, of course, is the last of the trilogy and expands on the others nicely… more is defined, refined and, like in the past, I felt like a ball of string being tossed and battered around by a cunning cat. At one point, and you’ll know it, I had to remind myself to breathe. Overall, I give the series a 5 star rating but did give this one 4 stars for the story for reasons I don’t want to share due to spoils but in general there was a part that was a little hard for me to jump on board. I’ll let you try and figure it out. Overall I was thrilled with the series. Great character and story development… really great and stunning surprises… quite a ride.

Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books—but we are real.

I liked the characters from the film
Revisado: 01-23-23
The way the characters are portrayed in this format are way less cool. I just couldn’t buy in. I enjoyed the film but just couldn’t finish the audio as it was too nerdy.

Great set up for a rollercoaster last quarter
Revisado: 12-29-22
This book unfolded nicely. I bought into the characters and meandered along as the story developed and became richer and richer. By the time the beginning of the end hit I had a pit in my stomach and was held hostage till the very last “page” (minute since it’s audio) and loved all the twists and turns. This was such a pleasant surprise.

Set in early 1980s Poland against the violent decline of communism, a tender and passionate story of first love between two young men who eventually find themselves on opposite sides of the political divide - a stunningly poetic and heartrending literary debut for fans of Andre Aciman, Garth Greenwell, and Alan Hollinghurst.

Everything worked for me with this book
Revisado: 12-11-22
I just finished this audio book for the second time. First, I must say that Tomas’s is such a poetic writer with his consummate descriptions of sentiments, surroundings and reflection (I’ve put down so many books lately because they’re absent of those entities) These characters are well developed in a story that unfolds in a tumultuous time both internally and externally. The portrayal of inner beauty, primal instinct and often gut wrenching longing unwinds here with resolute determination battling external realities and oppression. That said, the story is carried along by an undeniably beautiful experience the characters had that can never really be completely liquidated no matter how cunning the external world will try to educate us in believing that to settle will be better. Difficult, yes.. but not better.
