Historia
Joel Byram is an everyday 22nd century guy. He spends his days training artificial-intelligence engines to act more human, jamming out to 1980s new wave - an extremely obscure genre - and trying to salvage his deteriorating marriage. Joel is pretty much an everyday guy with everyday problems - until he's accidentally duplicated while teleporting. Now Joel must outsmart the shadowy organization that controls teleportation, outrun the religious sect out to destroy it, and find a way to get back to the woman he loves.

Solid, But Not My Cup of Tea.
Revisado: 01-01-24
So I should start by saying I'm biased in two directions - I am not a huge Sci Fi person(star Trek, a side), but even then I'm not one for the science/techno side of it. I'm more interested in the story & the characters, which this book does fairly well. But I feel like the writing could have done more. And the ending is strangely abrupt and unsatisfying
Now for my other bias - I am a die hard #Critter & I absolutely LOVE Matthew Mercer! He does not disappoint as he performs these characters. Some were more nuanced than others, but again, I feel like that had more to do with the writing.
Overall, it's an enjoyable listen, but I didn't find myselfishing to hear what was next, like I have w/other audio books. It was something I went back to while shopping once a week. Not pressing, but a pleasant background with an interesting concept & decent story-telling.
Anyway, that's my two cents. Take a listen & decide for yourself!

In this, the first novel of the best-selling Incarnations of Immortality series, Piers Anthony combines a deeply moving examination of the meaning of life and death with a gripping story of romance and loyalty, all set in a world of magic and technical wizardry.

The Start of It All...
Revisado: 09-18-18
My Favorite of the series & a wonderful introduction to this world, which is contemporary, nostalgic and whimsical all at once.
The one drawback (in my opinion) I would caution people about is the overly embellished phrasing and language used by Piers Anthony. It's his style but can be cumbersome to some, and just plan ostentatious to others.

A New Addiction Has Begun!
Revisado: 07-29-18
My husband recommended this series, but I just wasn't sure. I will admit that it was my love of James Marsters from Buffy fame as Spike that Got me to give it a try. Truth be told I was pleasantly surprised!
The story is compelling and the characters come alive, pulling the reader in without ever realizing it. And while "Spike" is nowhere to be found, it was impressive to see the range of Marsters' talent as he makes Harry Dresden REAL for the reader. There is a genuine sense of an actual person telling YOU their story as if confiding in a friend.
I lived this, start to finish and can't wait to read the rest! I'm hooked!

There are some very interesting characters here, which David Tennant does beautifully. The story is solid , but not spectacular. Still, it's an enjoyable read for any Whovian.

Not My Favorite Whovian Book!
Revisado: 04-30-18
David Tennant is astounding! Unfortunately, he's been given sub-par material to work with. The story is a bit weak and the characters (aside from The Doctor, Rose & Mickey), are very 2 dimensional. Lastly, the plot was predictable & lack-luster.

Starfall: a world on the edge, where crooks and smugglers hide in the gloomy shadows and modern technology refuses to work. And that includes the TARDIS. The pioneers who used to be drawn by the hope of making a fortune from the mines can find easier picking elsewhere. But they still come... for the romance of it, or old-fashioned organic mining. Or in the hope of finding the lost treasure of Hamlek Glint, scourge of the spaceways, privateer, adventurer, bandit.

I'm In Love With A Monster!!!
Revisado: 04-27-18
Another mind-blowing performance by David Tennant & a thoroughly enjoyable story. The obvious "monster" is a real joy, while the more subtle monsters are quite disturbing ...and Tennant flows between darkness & light, flawlessly!

A LOT of Fun!
Revisado: 04-27-18
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I had heard about this book for, literally, decades but wasn't sure I could get through it on my own, but I thought I might give it a go on audio. Then, (to my delight), I learned that Stephen Fry was narrating it, whom I adore so there we are! An excellent, amusing and silly romp through the mind of Douglas Adams, in the charming tones and native tongue of an Englishman! Brilliant!
Would you be willing to try another book from Douglas Adams? Why or why not?
I am interested in checking out it's sequel, but we shall see - I have quite a few books on my list of "To Read'.
What about Stephen Fry’s performance did you like?
I like him very much as a performer, in general. However, here, I felt that the dry, British tone added to the 'flavor' of the writing...if that makes any sense. It's somehow more - authentic.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
It IS a movie, and now that I've read the book I plan on seeing the film. :)

Historia
The TARDIS materialises on board the maiden voyage of a pioneering space cruiser, travelling from Earth to the planet Eternity. The Doctor has just started exploring the huge, hi-tech Interstitial Transposition Vehicle when there is a loud bang, a massive jolt and a flash of light. Shortly afterwards, he discovers that nearly all the passengers and crew have disappeared. Unless the Doctor and flight attendant Sugar MacAuley can take control and steer the ship, they could crash-land or keep slipping through space forever.
