Historia
Prosecuting attorney in the Manson trial Vincent Bugliosi held a unique insider's position in one of the most baffling and horrifying cases of the 20th century: the cold-blooded Tate-LaBianca murders carried out by Charles Manson and four of his followers. What motivated Manson in his seemingly mindless selection of victims, and what was his hold over the young women who obeyed his orders? Now available for the first time in unabridged audio, the gripping story of this famous and haunting crime is brought to life by acclaimed narrator Scott Brick.

The BEST TRUE CRIME BOOK I have read thus far
Revisado: 03-16-15
Would you listen to Helter Skelter again? Why?
Yes, it's THAT interesting and well written.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Helter Skelter?
The anticipation in the beginning, the author's enormous detail on the events, Manson's life, the family and the trial. Everything you would want to know about the events that took place, is so well researched and written in this book.
What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His voice and narrative is perfect for this book and this genre.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me do both. Something not many books can do.
Any additional comments?
HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I don't think I can express how much I enjoyed this book. Top 3 so far.

Historia
This classic tale is a fantastical fable of two dear friends - one of whom goes astray and is literally lost to the north woods, while the other undertakes an epic journey to rescue him. This charming, strange, and wonderful story is a timeless allegory about growing up and the challenges of staying true to one's self, and it served as the wintry inspiration for the blockbuster hit Frozen.

Not my style
Revisado: 03-16-15
Would you try another book from Hans Christian Andersen and/or Julia Whelan?
Doubt it. I only listened to this book because it was offered free by Audible. This book is totally not my style. I thought I could get into it, it's different and I'm usually very open-minded but... I was not interested at all and just kind of let it play in the background while working in hopes that I might get into it. Never did. It's normally not a genre I read, so maybe you shouldn't consider my review.

Historia
From 1926 to 1928, Gordon Stewart Northcott committed at least 20 murders on a chicken ranch outside of Los Angeles. His nephew, Sanford Clark, was held captive there from the age of 13 to 15, and was the sole surviving victim of the killing spree. Here, acclaimed crime writer Anthony Flacco - using never-before-heard information from Sanford’s son Jerry Clark - tells the real story behind the case that riveted the nation.

Good read
Revisado: 03-16-15
Would you consider the audio edition of The Road Out of Hell to be better than the print version?
I've never read the printed version but I would say Yes because of how well the author narrates the book. (Coincidentally, he narrates his own book and does great.)
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jesse (Sanford's sister.) Being the mother to her little brother and stepping in to check in on him when no one else would. She also seems like a brave independent woman who many women should aspire to be.
Have you listened to any of Anthony Flacco’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not.
If you could give The Road Out of Hell a new subtitle, what would it be?
"One boys shocking 2 year struggle with life clinched by a sadistic uncle."Eh, something along those lines.
Any additional comments?
I was hesitant at first because of the nature of the crimes carried out by Northcott. By listening to the audio sample, I kind of left this book on the back burner for a while because I had thought it would focus too much on sexual abuse, pedophilia and murder and it would be too much for me. But, it plays out well and is balanced. Overall good job on the author's part. I would have liked more on the trial(s) but I feel like I always could get more :)

Historia
A silent, simmering killer terrorized New England in 1911. A heat wave unlike any that had come before killed people in the streets, caused others to drown in the waters where they sought relief, and drove still others to suicide. As more than 2,000 people died during the natural disaster, another silent killer began her own murderous spree. Amy Archer-Gilligan operated the Archer Home for Elderly People and Chronic Invalids in Windsor, Connecticut.

Strays away from the main story much too often!
Revisado: 03-16-15
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes and No. Being a true crime and investigative book fan, I was a little disappointed mainly because of the lack of detail of the events and the constant mention of the heat wave that occurred during this time. I feel the author goes on and on about the weather and strays away too frequently from the story. Although the story of Amy Archer Philips is interesting, I believe maybe because of the lack of information available or lack of research on the author's part caused the author to try to elongate the book by constantly mentioning the heat wave. Maybe this book should have been titled "The heat wave of 1912 and the first female serial killer." Obviously not a good title but you get my point. I would have enjoyed more information on the trial(s).
Has The Devil's Rooming House turned you off from other books in this genre?
Not at all.
Which scene was your favorite?
The events leading up to and including Amy's arrest and trial.
Did The Devil's Rooming House inspire you to do anything?
To write reviews on audible books I've read. I've been fairly satisfied with all my books on audible thus far until now.
