Worst Book Ever—and I Have Read Thousands
Revisado: 09-14-24
For context, this book was assigned reading for a business program. After the first few chapters of this rhinoceros nonsense, I had to search reviews to see if this book was supposed to be satire—and maybe I had missed that fact. Alas, it was not satire. I can’t even say that it was humorous, because the subtext is: be a mindless charging rhino or be a cow like everyone else.
There was no substance to this book. There was no engaging storyline to this book. This is, by far, the absolute worst book that I have ever experienced. And I have read thousands of books in my 46 years.
I did learn two invaluable lessons: 1) if this author can sell 3 million copies of a nonsense book, then I can surely do so without any need for self doubt; and 2) I am neither a rhino nor a cow, and now I need to write a book for the critically thinking crowd.

Historia
In Expansive Intimacy: How “Tough Guys” Defeat Burnout, I take a hard look at the rules of masculinity that force men into a false choice: either face shame by saying they can't continue to suffer in silence anymore, or invite burnout by following the harsh rules that say men have to shut down their natural emotions and keep striving for achievement. With equal measures of levity and gravity—plus a kick-ass soundtrack—I'll walk you through my years-long journey through burnout, the harrowing parts and the breakthroughs alike.

The Book That Every Guy Needs
Revisado: 11-16-23
First, let me say that I am an avid audiobook consumer. As such, I can tell you that it’s rare to find a book in audio format that is compelling in content AND performance—especially in the personal development genre. This audiobook is an excellent example of both.
Second, we are at a time in human history where our cultural conditioning is hurting us at a mass scale. This book is a great resource for men who have been stuck within the limited constraints of a version of “masculinity” that has long been outdated.
Third, I would recommend this book for women, as well. In it, you will undoubtedly find that it gives you insight into what the men in your life might be experiencing in silence. You may also find that you, yourself, are experiencing burnout—because your work culture is dominated by men who are also burned out, and expect their employees to follow suit.
I cannot recommend this book enough. It is an outstanding guide for leaders, parents, and partners.

Great Introduction to an Important Topic
Revisado: 07-28-23
Jim Young sets the listener up with the premise of his podcast, and gives us a powerful “why” for developing our understanding and practice of intimacy. Though this is geared towards men, I find it equally relevant for me.
The production quality is good. His voice and articulation are engaging. And his sense of humor sneaks in with great timing.
I look forward to hearing more episodes!

An Important Book for Transformational Leaders
Revisado: 10-20-22
I highly recommend this book for coaches, healers, and other transformational leaders. Not only is it insightful in thinking about the experiences that we create for our clients, it is also helpful for thinking of our own transformation and where we may be stuck.
The Anatomy of a Transformation is a great tool, and the examples provided throughout the book to bring the various parts to life were useful and engaging.

Basic Principles to Live By
Revisado: 10-02-22
This is not a narrated book, as you may expect. This is more like talk, organized in chapters. Personally, I enjoyed the change from a traditional audiobook—but I am also partial to the author, as I have read his previous books and fully enjoy listening to him speak.
The principles in this book are simple and relevant to anyone. All you need is to practice what you learn—and grow.

Awareness Builder 101 was written to leave you with more questions than answers. Each of the 52 reflections is an invitation to start thinking about what that topic means to you. Listen to it, reflect on it, struggle with it, be annoyed by it, love it, talk with each other about it, take the words out for a walk; it's all fine. The book comes to life when you find your meaning for the words in it. When you become aware what your perspective on this topic is, make conscious choices from there. It's your life!

True to its name
Revisado: 10-21-20
This book is a wonderful introduction and resource to building awareness and practicing introspection. The book is divided into different topics, and at the end of each chapter are a series of questions to build your own awareness about the topics. The author's voice conveyed a range of emotions that allows the listener to feel what the author was feeling, be it joy, grief, anger, or hope. I highly recommend this book for bite-sized awareness building that will bring deeper presence to yourself.

Historia
Margaret Trudeau, former wife of Pierre Trudeau, 15th Prime Minister of Canada, mother of Justin Trudeau, Canada's current Prime Minister, and international mental health advocate, brought her intimate staged performance, Certain Woman of an Age, to the Minetta Lane Theatre, where it was recorded live for Audible Theater. In this "fearless and vulnerable" (Chicago Tribune) one-woman show, Trudeau opens up - with refreshing candor - about her extraordinary life and her encounters with some of the most important icons of our time.

Powerful Inside View of a Human
Revisado: 03-30-20
Wow. I will admit that I knew nothing of Margaret Trudeau, though I surmised that she was related to Justin Trudeau. I chose this audiobook out of four free choices, and I am glad that I did. The performance was beautiful. The vulnerability was even more so. As someone who is very open about her own mental health struggles, I greatly sympathized with Margaret’s experiences and her aim in sharing her story. I absolutely loved her delivery and her willingness to bring the audience into her narrative, as well.
