Ahead of its time, speculating on what quantum science suggests about the nature of reality. A story that is, not one that tries to be.

A smarter way to reduce crime, violence, and homelessness.
Revisado: 12-01-24
This is a great 20 minute summary of how to break out of the institutionalization and stereotyping of men in particular who are caught up in the cycle of crime, drugs, and homelessness. Everyone who wants to get to the root cause should listen to this interview with Rob Munger.

Great writing and narrating
Revisado: 08-13-24
I listened twice. The first time, tried to listen while I was doing other things, the way I can with some books. This book didn’t work that way. I was frustrated. Could not keep track of details, and understand the implications of the complex, but beautiful way ideas and emotions are expressed. So I listened again More carefully, without interruptions. It’s a good investment. The characters come alive, the narrator has great breadth, and the story insinuates itself into you.

Historia
In a seedy D.C. porno house a patron is swiftly garroted to death... The next day America learns that two of its Supreme Court justices have been assassinated. And in New Orleans, a young law student prepares a legal brief. To Darby Shaw it was no more than a legal shot in the dark, a brilliant guess. To the Washington establishment it was political dynamite. Suddenly, Darby is witness to a murder - a murder intended for her. Going underground, she finds there is only one person she can trust - an ambitious reporter after a news break hotter than Watergate.

Characters fully developed without excess detail, some mystery left to figure out. Just enough pieces to keep us. The music between dialog is a nice tough.

Historia
After nearly two decades in the Washington PR business, Elwood wants to come clean, by exposing the dark underbelly of the very industry that’s made him so successful. The first step is revealing exactly what he’s been up to for the past twenty years—and it isn’t pretty. Elwood has worked for a murderer’s row of questionable clients, including Gaddafi, Assad, and the government of Qatar. In All the Worst Humans, Elwood unveils how the PR business works, and how the truth gets made, spun, and sold to the public—not shying away from the gritty details of his unlikely career.

Binge-worthy. Every worried citizen needs to hear this story.
Revisado: 07-04-24
Every American red and blue needs to hear this powerful primer on the political power broker industry, the narrative-spinners that keep the silenced majority divided and the monied in power, and the infection of the media industry by a business model that profits by dividing Americans in fear, anger and hate. Elwood was caught up deeply in it, and while he’s no model of virtue, he is an honest insider who names names, and he represents thousands who continue to exploit the system, some with and some without remorse.

Historia
It was supposed to be fun. A relaxing trip to a remote mountain retreat where there’s no phone reception. Three couples, friends since high school, are looking forward to a weekend of drinking, reminiscing and flirting. When someone suggests swapping partners, it doesn’t seem like such a bad idea. The lights will be switched off, for privacy. It’s not really cheating if you don’t know who you were with, right? But when the lights come back on, one of the men is dead. No-one can agree who was in which bedroom with whom.

Have you heard that language is violence and that science is sexist? Have you read that certain people shouldn't practice yoga? Or been told that being obese is healthy, that there is no such thing as biological sex, or that only White people can be racist? Are you confused by these ideas, and do you wonder how they have managed to challenge the logic of Western society? In this probing volume, Helen Pluckrose and James Lindsay document the evolution of the dogma that informs these ideas, from its coarse origins in French postmodernism to its refinement within activist academic fields.

Revisado: 05-05-23
I feel like I finally understand the roots of this odd movement to impose a theory on society and then force reality to sacrifice itself to the simplistic theory. Makes me a better advocate of rational alternatives that respect lived experience without enshrining it as Truth.

Makes clear what’s gone astray in modern relationships between the masculine and feminine. Should use a new book for newer times. The performance needs improvement - reader seems detached from the message and often mispronounces or misemphasizes points.

Historia
Following the 2008 financial crisis, the Federal Reserve's monetary policy placed much greater focus on stabilizing the market than on helping struggling Americans. As a result, the richest Americans got a lot richer while the middle class shrank and economic and wealth inequality skyrocketed. In Engine of Inequality, Karen Petrou offers pragmatic solutions for creating more inclusive monetary policy and equality-enhancing financial regulation as quickly and painlessly as possible.

FINALLY A CLEAR EXPLANATION
Revisado: 07-26-21
Karen Petrou has the qualifications and, frankly, courage to finally make clear why it is that, in the midst of a devastation global pandemic, financial markets would be “recovering” and the economy would appear to be improving. This book feels like a warning to be heeded. Our financial system is far from sustainable. If we wait too long to take prescriptions like those she proposes, we’ll be leaving a huge mess to our children - and maybe ourselves.
