Historia
Why do women live longer than men? Why do women have menopause? Why are women more likely to get Alzheimer’s? Why do girls score better at every academic subject than boys until puberty, when suddenly their scores plummet? And does the female brain really exist? In Eve, Cat Bohannon answers questions scientists should have been addressing for decades. With boundless curiosity and sharp wit, she covers the past 200 million years to explain the specific science behind the development of the female sex.

Politics enters
Revisado: 03-27-24
Eve started very interestingly with studies of human evolution. It made the valid point that medical science has neglected aspect of humanity related to the female gender and that there is an interesting story to human evolution of female organs and reproduction.
There is some interesting speculation of how societies of hominids developed.
But she then jumps off the cliff where science ends and political theory enters.
Discussions of the ecology of societal norms become contaminated with political philosophy.
Unfortunately a very interesting and informative book turns into a diatribe against "sexism" whatever that means. It also defends "gender diversity" without any scientific basis.
If I stopped half way, I would have given this book 5 stars, but I can no longer recommend it to my friends.
Sad.

Historia
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1974 and the culmination of a life's work, The Denial of Death is Ernest Becker's brilliant and impassioned answer to the "why" of human existence. In bold contrast to the predominant Freudian school of thought, Becker tackles the problem of the vital lie: man's refusal to acknowledge his own mortality. In doing so, he sheds new light on the nature of humanity and issues a call to life and its living that still resonates more than 30 years after its writing.

Disappointing
Revisado: 02-24-23
I expected depth in the quest for understanding fear of death. Instead outdated freudian nonsense.
The idea that schizophrenia is psychologically based is now discredited.

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

What? No progress
Revisado: 06-28-21
Enlightening and thought provoking.
However Ms. Wilkerson gives no credit for all the progress over the years. She does not acknowledge the possibility that the system of caste is weaker now than it was in the past.

Historia
How do we love in a time of rage? How do we fix a broken world while not breaking ourselves? Valarie Kaur - renowned Sikh activist, filmmaker, and civil rights lawyer - describes revolutionary love as the call of our time, a radical, joyful practice that extends in three directions: to others, to our opponents, and to ourselves. It enjoins us to see no stranger but instead look at others and say: You are part of me I do not yet know. Starting from that place of wonder, the world begins to change.

A world without doubt
Revisado: 05-31-21
Valerie seems to believe that she has full insight into truth. Who is the oppressed and who is the oppressor is absolute and without shades of gray. There are no conflicts where there are equal claims.
All the villains can be won over with love. Systems are at fault and changing systems only hurts the evil. Valerie gets to decide.
She takes no personal responsibility. 4 years she suffers with endometriosis without seeking help and she blames those who caused her to be ashamed of her body and the health care system which was not consulted.
This woman buys every myth of the extreme progressive view of the world without question.
So self absorbed, she prescribes but I don’t see any examples that show she listens.
Sorry I wasted my time.
