Interesting developments as book progressed
Revisado: 03-03-25
I enjoyed book, but it wouldn’t be one l would recommend or remember. The book was a too long and could have been edited a lot. I kept finding myself thinking about other things and frequently and having to backtrack to listen again, since so many people were involved in the book, it was necessary to follow closely. As a Daily Deal, I thought it was alright.

Although l didn’t try to figure out the end of the story, l’m not sure l could have with all the twists and turns. Kept me interested and listening as the story moved along fairly rapidly.

I was kept reading....
Revisado: 01-21-25
Although it is few books that keep me 100% engaged, this one did! It was not the best in any category, but still kept me wanting to hear more! I will keep my eyes open for a "follow up" if this becomes a series!

Historia
"That's not my sister." Overwhelmed by shock and relief, those are the only words Deven can muster when she is called to identify the body of a suicide victim. A body she was informed was her sister, Kennedy. But as she stares at the lifeless stranger, she's filled with questions: Who is this woman? Why was Deven listed as family? And most important, where is Kennedy? Her intuition tells her just one thing: this can't be a total coincidence.

Worst narration!

Even @ 1.5 increased narration speed, this book was hard to get through! Book was rather confusing and way way way too long. Ended poorly, & l wondered why l had wasted my time!

Expected more
Revisado: 07-07-23
Most of the reviews about “historical references” were accurate, and narration was excellent. Story was very intriguing until about 5/8’s of way through. If it were not for the narration, l would have stopped once the sappy soap opera-ish end of novel began. The main character began to lose all of the good characteristic’s that had been built for her by the author up until that point. Disappointing.

Charmaine Harris fan, but cannot wholeheartedly recommend
Revisado: 05-22-23
As a fan of Harris’s work, she’s yet to exceed the Stackhouse series. I would have enjoyed more of that series. Other series have been enjoyable as well. This Gunnie Rose series, although this is my first book in the series, l was not even interested in trying until it was on sale! There were many holes in the story regarding this dystopian background filled in partially throughout the book.
The narrator did not appeal to me in the least, and was hard to get used to hearing her. Maybe l was so impressed by the Stackhouse series narrator, l was expecting more. I was shocked that several reviewers actually did like her!
If l had read this book, l wouldn’t have been able to finish it. Since l did finish the Audible version, l will try the second, though, since it is narrated, and the first in a series is often excelled by the following books.

Very dissatisfying book
Revisado: 02-27-23
The overall subject matter was unbelievably difficult to bear but l kept on listening thinking it had to improve. There was no improvement, and l was sorry l didn’t quit early as l had wanted. The characters were not fully developed, neither was the entire storyline, as sick and confused as this story was in its entirety. Slaughter had a real push towards deadline obviously!

There were far too many times the accents of characters were so unbelievable that l would find myself not able to follow the story line. Disappointing.
