Historia
Prepare yourself for a transformative experience. Sometimes, life's setbacks contain hidden gifts. Here at Lakewood, you'll find the space to unwrap them. A weekend at the Lakewood Retreat is exactly what Chloe Powell needs. Freshly unemployed after her boss loses a reelection campaign, the former press secretary desperately wants a break from the bustle of Washington DC. A flier posted at her yoga studio leads her to the getaway, which looks amazing: organic meals, celebrity testimonials, and a serene private property within driving distance of the city.

I really liked the plot. Had me guessing at first! Great narration as well. Listened in my car on a trip. Would read more like it. A satisfying book.

Woke, but still helpful
Revisado: 06-26-23
The book was quiet about same sex relationships until toward the end. I was disappointed the book went that direction, but everything up to that point was great! Sensible, practical advice from an author who seems to walk the walk and talk the talk. Jay narrates his own book, which works well. He is always kind, but straight forward. He researched a lot for this book and I really appreciated the survey results and statistics.

Historia
The first half of the journey, The Knight, took a teenage boy from America into Mythgarthr, the middle realm of seven fantastic worlds. Above are the gods of Skai; below are the capricious Aelf, and more dangerous things still. Journeying throughout Mythgarthr, Able gains a new brother, an Aelf queen lover, a supernatural hound, and the desire to prove his honor and become the noble knight he always knew he would be. Coming into Jotunland, home of the Frost Giants, Able - now Sir Able of the High Heart - claims the great sword Eterne from the dragon who has it.

Not my cup of tea, not a learning experience
Revisado: 06-09-23
I thought the main character was too immature for far too long in the series. However, it is imaginative and provides enough detail to envision the fantasy worlds. I am told that the portrayal of the young protagonist was purposeful. Idk. I think a teenage boy would most enjoy the series. Something I can really appreciate was that the author leaves no loose ends! Don’t hurry through this. I found it helpful to read the paper version along with the audio one. I believe it’s important to go back to previous chapters review characters as needed to make sure you are on track with the story. It is more enjoyable for me to do a one time read/listen with much review than to read the entire book multiple times. I personally thought the author was borderline misogynistic but you be the judge. I am told that may be due to the protagonist being immature. This wasn’t a learning experience for me. Only somewhat entertaining.

The first volume of Gene Wolfe's powerful story of Latro, a Roman mercenary who received a head injury that deprived him of his short-term memory. In return it gave him the ability to converse with supernatural creatures, gods, and goddesses who invisibly inhabit the ancient landscape.

Good read, even better narration
Revisado: 06-09-23
Narrator did a great job with pronunciation and the different voices in the book. My favorite was IO. I was reading the paper version also. My recommendation is to read slowly and, as needed, go back and reread certain sections to remind yourself of names mentioned previously; it helps with context. I found it helpful to refer to the glossary as well to clear up some things. If you aren’t familiar with Greek mythology, the book may not have as much meaning. However, even without that knowledge, it’s a good series. Like I said, it is easier to understand if you take your time and return to previous chapters, to reread information about characters and/or events, as you go. Also, I like that the main character forgets his life every day.

Pretty sick honestly
Revisado: 06-26-22
I admire anyone able to make a living as a writer. This author has a good vocabulary without talking down to or over the head of the reader. She is very detailed. I might have liked it better as a read, without narration. But I found no characters here to root for. Quite possibly the authors point, idk. I wish certain aspects of the story were better developed, but again, the author seemed focused, so I’m guessing she got the desired reaction and sales.
