The insight and compassion is impressive
Revisado: 09-16-24
As humans, we have a tendency to fear and reject what we don’t understand. With that being said, Judgment and criticism does not inspire anyone to do the hard work of healing and doing better. In this book, Dr. Adshead gives great examples of the therapeutic progress that can occur when patients feel emotionally safe. I am so impressed with Dr. Adshead’s capacity for self-reflection, empathy, compassion, understanding, etc.. I appreciate the insight gained through reading this book and I am grateful to know there are mental health practitioners out there in the world like Dr. Adshead.

Raw, vulnerable, inspiring
Revisado: 12-23-23
This book is beautiful and makes you feel like you are along for the ride. This book is 100% going to help people. I completely believe that anyone who criticizes this book, is only bringing attention to their own unhealed wounds.

Historia
"While the history books are filled with tales of obsessive visionary geniuses who remade the world in their images with sheer, almost irrational force, I've found that history is also made by individuals who fought their egos at every turn, who eschewed the spotlight, and who put their higher goals above their desire for recognition." Read the book instead!
Revisado: 06-18-22
This book has great content; however, the narration will put you to sleep. The performance lacks passion and energy, and is subsequently uninspiring. I highly recommend anyone to buy and read the book instead!

Historia
There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves.

Historia
Based on seven years of ground-breaking research and hundreds of interviews, I Thought It Was Just Me shines a long-overdue light on an important truth: Our imperfections are what connect us to each other and to our humanity. Our vulnerabilities are not weaknesses; they are powerful reminders to keep our hearts and minds open to the reality that we're all in this together.

All women should read this!
Revisado: 07-27-20
All women and those who want to understand women would benefit from reading this book! This is one of the most important books I’ve ever read. Sure I am single and not pregnant with children, but I can identify the experience of feeling undue shame or inadequacy in any circumstance. This book has helped me to understand that i am not alone, and knowing this is liberating. I highly recommend

Historia
"True belonging doesn't require us to change who we are. It requires us to be who we are." Social scientist Brené Brown, PhD, LMSW, has sparked a global conversation about the experiences that bring meaning to our lives - experiences of courage, vulnerability, love, belonging, shame, and empathy. In Braving the Wilderness, Brown redefines what it means to truly belong in an age of increased polarization.

Historia
Psychiatry has made great advances in the past 50 years but needs a new direction. Today's emphasis on psychiatric drugs will not stand the test of time. Recent advances in epigenetics and the molecular biology of the brain have provided a roadmap for the development of effective, natural, drug-free therapies that do not produce serious side effects. Psychiatric medications have served society well over the last 50 years, but the need for drug therapies will fade away as science advances.

Great material, but the narrator was not very engaging. I realize it is science and that is hard to do, I suppose..
