Historia
Based on extensive research and access to Alcott's journals and correspondence, Cheever chronicles all aspects of Alcott's life, beginning with the fateful meeting of her parents to her death, just two days after that of her dynamic and domineering father, Bronson. Cheever examines Alcott's role as a woman, a working writer, and a daughter at a time when Alcott's rejection of marriage in favor of independence - a decision to be no man's "little woman" - was seen as defying conventional wisdom.

Comes across as biased and opionated
Revisado: 05-14-23
A good historical biography tells the story with little bias and opinions. Throughout the biographer complains than historians reflect using the context of today. The author will do the same in the next sentence.
The book gives a good perspective of Alcot, but with a bias that the author could have avoided. Made listening at times painful

Title miss leading
Revisado: 07-24-21
If you are expecting an understanding of the relationship of Kong Edward and TR look else where. The author focuses mostly on Edward and way to much on his sex life which was not needed to the pages of detail almost overboard descriptions of a room in France. Also the info on TR was not researched well comes across at as ignorant and a superficial with details stated out of order to leave a false impression of TR. TR did not have a face mask of who he was and this another only spewed facts when it was suitable.
I will look for a real historical fact about their relationship. It has such importance to our world today.

Historia
In this groundbreaking epic biography, Douglas Brinkley draws on never-before-published materials to examine the life and achievements of our "naturalist president." By setting aside more than 230 million acres of wild America for posterity between 1901 and 1909, Theodore Roosevelt made conservation a universal endeavor. This crusade for the American wilderness was perhaps the greatest U.S. presidential initiative between the Civil War and World War I.

Long and in need of an edited new edition
Revisado: 04-17-21
The author and his editors need to revisit this book to streamline and focus on TR versus going off on tangents under the guise of back stories. This takes away from TR. Additionally the author needed more research and use facts about the complexity of who TR is versus myth. At times the author hits it but when the author wants to emphasize a behavior he does not alway state fact. Which is I unfortunate because TR left behind thousands of documents. Plus with the likes of Dalton and Morris, Brinkley should never have noted Eleanor Roosevelt as TR cousin when she was his niece. This makes one second guess the accuracy of the book. Trimmed down to 1/2 it’s length with more focus on TR would make this a winner.

Roosevelt was a cowboy, a boxer, a politician, a war hero, a father, a devoted husband, and most of all, a real human being. I hope you will listen to this book in his own words and get to know one of America's presidents, and I hope that you will come to appreciate him as much as I have.

Poor narrative for an American President
Revisado: 11-29-20
TR was a unique person with a wonderful character. While the narrator loves TR he was the wrong person to bring the autobiography to life. Dully read and almost amateurs recorded. Find another audiobook
