Historia
When professional hockey player Sig Gauthier’s car breaks down and his phone dies, he treks into a posh private country club to call a tow truck, where he encounters the alluring Chloe Clifford, the manic pixie dream girl who captivates him immediately with her sense of adventure and penchant for stealing champagne. Sparks fly during a moonlight kiss and the enamored pair can’t wait to see each other again, but when Sig finally arrives to meet his dad’s new girlfriend over dinner, Chloe is confusingly also there. Turns out the girlfriend is Chloe’s mother. Oh, and they’re engaged.

Honestly awful
Revisado: 02-12-25
What on earth are these five star reviewers thinking? Genuinely baffled. This book fully sucked. Tessa Bailey often veers too far into the weirdly toxic possessive trope with her male leads, but at least she normally balances them out with a woman who can hold her own. Chloe is the kind of pathetic and helpless and clueless that made me want to actively root against her, and Sig infantilizes her and treats her like some kind of helpless baby in a way I found truly nauseating. They seem to barely know anything of substance each other and somehow we are expected to believe that they fell in the kind of earth shattering love that means it’s okay to f*** your presumed stepsister?? This stepsiblings plotline wasn’t hot, it was just totally weird and uncomfortable end to end. The plot was super weak, and in general lacked any genuine conflict (the drama of adult stepsiblings dating would never end a famous NHL player’s career, come on!) and even the epilogue felt cringey and forced. The performances were good, but I wish Tessa had thrown this one in the trash instead of wasting my time. Yuck.

I can’t believe that I pulled my boss’ name for our company’s annual Secret Santa tradition.... As the devil incarnate, this infuriating, cocky bastard never gives us the holidays off, and he honestly expects us to be grateful for his generous alternative: The Office Party. It’s a mandatory, all-expenses paid trip for two weeks at a surprise luxury resort - where we still have to work 12 to 15 hours a day.

Wildly Unrealistic Plot, Toxic Characters. Dumb.
Revisado: 01-24-25
Just yikes. Absolutely no merit here. The plot has more holes than Swiss cheese, the characters are unlikable and have basically no personality or chemistry, and there was like zero world building or realistic/relatable context. No idea where all these positive reviews are coming from?

But when Savvy’s world starts to crash down around her, she knows it’s time for some renovations.

Boring, poor writing
Revisado: 07-20-24
This barely had a story to tell. Zero real plot arc, whiny characters without much to say. Felt like it was written by a teenager. Narrator sounded weirdly robotic. Not worth it.

Historia
Sometimes, the worst day of your life happens, and you have to figure out how to live after it. So Clementine forms a plan to keep her heart safe: work hard, find someone decent to love, and try to remember to chase the moon. The last one is silly and obviously metaphorical, but her aunt always told her that you needed at least one big dream to keep going. And for the last year, that plan has gone off without a hitch. Mostly. The love part is hard because she doesn’t want to get too close to anyone—she isn’t sure her heart can take it.

Great listen—EXCEPT she pronounced “Ewan” SO wrong!!!
Revisado: 08-06-23
Really great book, totally delightful as expected and was a balm to my soul—the narrator did a great job EXCEPT why on earth wouldn’t she look up how to pronounce the name Ewan before recording an ENTIRE BOOK?! She pronounced it “ee-wahn” which is patently insane and frankly embarrassing when everyone (including world famous actor Ewan McGregor!) knows it’s pronounced “you-un” and honestly it nearly ruined the whole thing for me every time she said it. Girl, you have one job to do. Ask how to pronounce the name. How are none of these reviews talking about this?! Blech.

Historia
For Samantha Gale, a summer on Martha’s Vineyard at her family’s tiny cottage was supposed to be about resurrecting her career as a chef, until she’s tasked with chaperoning her half-brother, Tyler. The teenage brainiac is spending his summer at the local library in a robotics competition, and there’s no place Sam, who has dyslexia, likes less than the library. And because the universe hates her, the library’s interim director turns out to be the hot-reader guy whose book she accidentally destroyed on the ferry ride to the island.

Meh
Revisado: 07-07-23
The story was fine, but I’ve never seen characters who need therapy more in my life. Being neurodivergent isn’t an identity, and neurodivergent people aren’t victims, and being neurodivergent isn’t the only thing they think about. The extent to which the author allowed Sam’s dyslexia and ADD to be the only real driving forces or key personality traits for her character felt totally artificial and forced, and felt like a total charicature of what it’s actually like to be a neurodivergent person. I can tell the author tried here but she overshot and by the end of the book I just felt annoyed by most of the characters.

Historia
Kitty Hart has become internet famous as the Kitty Whisperer for her expertise on all things feline, and as a result, her cat-sitting business is booming. But lately, she has a terrible feeling that maybe her life isn’t quite going where it’s supposed to—especially after falling face-first into her newest client. Not exactly the best first impression. Fortunately, Miles Thorn is just as bad at first impressions. Strike one: he doesn’t like cats, especially Prince Francis, the haughty and mischievous Sphynx his mom left in his care.

Is there a plot?
Revisado: 06-15-23
I’m confused. I kept waiting for there to be some kind of conflict or reasonable plot arc, but it feels like the author really dropped the ball. She just wanted to publish the next book and had thought up some good characters but she didn’t actually have a story to tell? It wasn’t a total waste of a listen but I still found it super underwhelming. Meh.

It was supposed to be a relaxing vacation in sweet, sunny Cape Cod—just me and my beloved brother—but discovering a corpse in our rental house really throws a wrench into our tanning schedule. Now a rude, crude bounty hunter has arrived on the back of his motorcycle to catch the killer and refuses to believe I can be helpful, despite countless hours of true crime podcast listening. Not to mention a fulfilling teaching career of wrangling second graders.

Please re-record!! Narration is horrible
Revisado: 02-13-23
Tessa Bailey is the best and her books are always my jam, but I could barely get through the first few chapters of this book. The narration is so, so bad. Who on earth would cast this male narrator as a romantic lead?! I’ll have to add this one to my actually-read-not-just-listen stack. But please I beg you re-record this with a narrator worthy of the writing!

Horrible narrator, good story
Revisado: 02-03-23
While I liked the story and writing, someone really needs to teach this narrator that she doesn’t need to aggressively enunciate every single word. She makes the characters sound like robots and sort of ruined the experience for me. Please re-record with someone who knows how to do this job!
