Historia
Isabel, the long-lost Gibson sister, is finally back home on Brinkley’s Island, Maine. With Sophie and Violet, her sister and her niece, she’s got the family bookstore—and with Johnny Lenox, she’s got something even more special. But even as life settles, not everything is falling into place. Isabel and Johnny have set the date three times, baked three wedding cakes, invited the whole island to three parties, only to have each attempt at matrimony fall apart at the last minute.

Well worth reading, but, be warned, contains triggers
Revisado: 12-09-23
This one was very hard to get through! Not only was it a long book, but it was emotionally difficult as well. I put it down several times, then started listening to the audio. Being an audiophile, the audio was easier for me to get through the novel. Many times, audio allows me to envision the story as it plays out, similar to a movie playing in my head. The downside of that for me in this book was the intense emotional turmoil I felt during Jude’s difficult life events, as well as his physical and emotional pain.
The writing is wonderful and I can see why it won awards and accolades. This book and its characters will stay with me for long time. It is well worth reading, but be warned, it contains many triggers.

Historia
As a panicked world goes into lockdown, Lucy Barton is uprooted from her life in Manhattan and bundled away to a small town in Maine by her ex-husband and on-again, off-again friend, William. For the next several months, it’s just Lucy, William, and their complex past together in a little house nestled against the moody, swirling sea. Rich with empathy and emotion, Lucy by the Sea vividly captures the fear and struggles that come with isolation, as well as the hope, peace, and possibilities that those long, quiet days can inspire.

Slow, but thought-provoking
Revisado: 06-24-23
Slow, but thought-provoking. Even though Lucy is initially childish and whiny, I love the conclusions she eventually reaches. I love how Strout interweaves characters from her other books into this novel.

Fiona Davis/Carnegie Hall
Revisado: 06-09-23
A short novella that is part of Kindle unlimited’s A Point in Time series. I love Fiona Davis and have read or listened to all of her books. Since this one was so short, it lacked Fiona Davis’ wonderful ability to capture the details that make me feel as if I am living within the plot. the pianist’s emotions were still felt and the Carnegie building explored, just not as much as I would have liked.

Predictable, but…
Revisado: 10-13-22
Okay… I read it. Yes, it was predictable. No, it wasn’t fabulous, but it did have a plot twist that kept me reading until I figured it out and finished it. And it had scenes that will stay in my mind for a good while. I can’t say that it was enjoyable, but it had passages that held my interest.

Predictable romance with an interesting subplot
Revisado: 10-11-22
A predictable romance with a fantastical subplot. I found Ursa quite endearing, but was also troubled by the adults’ somewhat acceptance of her just showing up and hanging around for days on end.
