Historia
Rob Sand, the youngest attorney in his office, was assigned a new case by his boss, who was days away from retirement. Inside the thin accordion binder that Sand received was meager evidence that had been gathered over the course of two years by Iowa authorities regarding a suspicious lottery ticket. No one expected the case to go anywhere. No dead body, no shots fired, and no money paid out. Why should they care?

Uhh what did I buy?
Revisado: 10-06-24
If you’re a lawyer or studying to be a lawyer, then this book is good. If you’re a regular person who doesn’t care about the intricacies of law but just looking for a good story, save your money and buy something else. Oh! Also, you’ll get to hear a lot more about the author’s life and history than that of Eddie, the guy who actually committed the crime. The author goes into painful detail about his (the author’s) entire life history. Spoiler: he’s a nobody from nobodyville who had a boring normal childhood, but lucky for world he recorded every boring detail in this book.

The Artist’s Way is the seminal book on the subject of creativity. An international best seller, millions of fans have found it to be an invaluable guide to living the artist’s life. Still as vital today - or perhaps even more so - than it was when it was first published one decade ago, it is a powerfully provocative and inspiring work. In a new introduction to the book, Julia Cameron reflects upon the impact of The Artist’s Way and describes the work she has done during the last decade and the new insights into the creative process that she has gained.

Out of date and not useful
Revisado: 06-22-24
I don’t get the hype around this book. It’s way out of date. She uses phrases like “if I become an artist I’ll get AIDS,” or people are afraid to become artists because they might “sex themselves to death.” Umm what? When she got into the section about addiction being a way for people to procrastinate creativity, I was out. To be fair, I was out after page 15. There are 2 useful things in this whole book and those are artist pages and artist dates. That all. And that should have blog post. The rest is completely out of date garbage. As an artist, I am horrified that anyone would waste their time reading this pile of trash. It’s NOT useful. Skip this pile of trash

Historia
In a sprawling mansion filled with peculiar treasures, January Scaller is a curiosity herself. As the ward of the wealthy Mr. Locke, she feels little different from the artifacts that decorate the halls: carefully maintained, largely ignored, and utterly out of place. Then she finds a strange book. A book that carries the scent of other worlds and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure, and danger. Each page turn reveals impossible truths about the world, and January discovers a story increasingly entwined with her own.

Good Story, Lazy Writing
Revisado: 03-18-24
The story is good, but the author fills ~1/3rd of the book with unnecessary description. It also took me months to get through the book because I kept getting frustrated by how helpless the main character is, and every time something is about to happen, the author cuts off the action and turns to unnecessary description or just completely cuts it off and moved to something else. It’s like the story is trying to move forward but the author keeps building walls in front of it for no reason. I don’t know if she thinks this is how you build suspense but it really just made me completely frustrated and I’d have to leave the book for days or weeks. If I hadn’t paid for this book, I probably wouldn’t have finished it.

Umm.. what?
Revisado: 01-28-24
I hardly made it to chapter 5. I don’t understand why anyone likes this book. Every chapter introduces a new set of characters and you never see the old characters again. It’s written by a woman but misogynistic, which is confusing and concerning. I still can’t figure out who the main is, what his values or beliefs are, or what his personality is. Why am I supposed to care about him? There’s just no character or relationship building at all. The narrator also doesn’t help because he makes the children sound like they are 13 going on 76. Great narrator for something like LOTR, but not this novel.
I’m really at a loss here as to why people like this? Maybe it’s a nostalgia thing? It’s not a story, it’s like someone is reading a bunch of bullet point facts about a persons life to me for hours at a time. “There was a person, their name was this, they went to this school, their friend was this person, one time they chanted this spell, then they graduated and apprenticed under this person, then they did this other spell.. “ and on and on. There’s more character building in a Taylor Swift song than in this book, and I say that as a non Swifty.

In her late 20s, Cait Flanders found herself stuck in the consumerism cycle that grips so many of us: earn more, buy more, want more, rinse, repeat. Even after she worked her way out of nearly $30,000 of consumer debt, her old habits took hold again. When she realized that nothing she was doing or buying was making her happy - only keeping her from meeting her goals - she decided to set herself a challenge: she would not shop for an entire year. The Year of Less documents Cait's life for 12 months during which she bought only consumables.

Second Read Thru And Still Relavent
Revisado: 01-07-24
I read the physical book several years ago when it first came out. I had just decluttered my life and was looking for direction on what was next. 6 years later, this book is just as relevant and relatable as I found it the first time.

Alec MacGillis’ Fulfillment is not another inside account or exposé of our most conspicuously dominant company. Rather, it is a literary investigation of the America that falls within that company’s growing shadow. As MacGillis shows, Amazon’s sprawling network of delivery hubs, data centers, and corporate campuses epitomizes a land where winner and loser cities and regions are drifting steadily apart, the civic fabric is unraveling, and work has become increasingly rudimentary and isolated.

Just Awful Everything
Revisado: 01-03-24
I couldn’t get past the 3rd chapter. It’s just a constant stream of bad people doing bad things, or bad things happening to good people, or the world is doomed. No ideas on how to fix anything or change the trajectory of our doomed planet/country. I had to stop listening because it would send me into anxiety and doom spirals. Maybe it gets better in the second half, but I couldn’t stick with it for long enough. The news is already so overwhelming that I have to avoid daily exposure, so this book wasn’t for me.

Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Baffled
Revisado: 12-10-23
I’m not a sci-fi fan and generally hate stories about space/robots/dystopian futures. I only decided to listen to this because I’m bored of my standers go to generas and it was included with the membership. I’m baffled by how much I liked this story. I listened to the entire thing in one sitting and will immediately be pressing play on the next book in the series. It’s well written. There aren’t buffer scenes or unnecessary dialogue. Every sentence moves the story or characters forward. The plot is interesting and I couldn’t wait to find out what happens next. I wasn’t expecting to even finish the story let alone like it, but, I don’t know, I guess I’m a fan of murder robots now, so that’s new.

It’s the house of their dreams. Former marine Harry and his wife, Sasha, have packed up their life and their golden retriever, Dash, and fled the corporate rat race to live off the land in rural Idaho. Their breathtaking new home sits on more than forty acres of meadow, aspen trees, and pine forest in the Teton Valley. Even if their friends and family think it’s a strange choice for an up-and-coming pair of urban professionals, Harry and Sasha couldn’t be happier about the future they’re building, all by their lonesome.

Don’t waste your money
Revisado: 10-28-23
Not scary, not interesting, not even well written. I’m confused on how this has such high reviews. The story is dumb. A spirit that takes a new form each season? Huh? Not even a scary form just a naked man or a mystery forest drum line. Ugh, I just can’t. Many of the scenes are clearly forced. A lot could have been cut out since it’s just one character talking in circles for 20+ minutes. The characters aren’t even likable! One is a complete codependent drug addict who isn’t active in recovery, and the other one talks about her spouse as if he’s a bird with a broken wing she’s nursing to health because she’s a good Samaritan. People on this app have the worst taste to rank this anything higher than a 2. The author is clearly male due to the obsession with nakedness, body parts, and sex. Run away in the other direction and buy ANYTHING else but this. This is on par with Twilight.

First Half Good
Revisado: 10-26-23
I found the first half of this book to be relative and interesting. The second half was deep into the tech bro culture. As soon as he started highlighting how great Tony Robbins and Tim Ferris were, I had to stop listening. I hardly think a scammer and someone famous for knowing other famous people are great examples to motivate others. Then there was the story how inspiring lugging giant rocks up mountains was in 113 degree heat. Nope, there’s no meaning or metaphor in the rock, it’s just a rock and you’re dumb for having lugged it up the mountain. And now that I know Baker is the James Arthur Ray type, I’ll be avoiding him and his work. I still think the first part is pretty decent though.
