Historia
Crease is known in Weaver as ‘the bug guy', the man who takes care of insects and other critters. But what emerges from the shadows of the town's waste plant is beyond anything found in nature. Fist-sized cockroaches. Bird-sized wasps. Spiders, millipedes, ticks, all swollen to enormous bulk with vicious appetites to match. And other things, creatures that should never exist.

Good ol gross out gore
Revisado: 04-05-23
I love pulpy horror, the bloodier the begged. Bugs scare me more than anything so I grabbed this hoping I’d get a little squeamish from it. Man I got that and then some. As an AFAB happens to a female character in the hospital made me gag. Warning to pet lovers: a dog does die early on so skip the chapter with Pickles if you can’t handle it.

Glimpses of things on the other side of a wall or beneath someone’s clothing. He wants to believe it’s just his overactive imagination, but the “X-ray” specs actually work.

picked this up as a curiosity and wasn't disappointed. if you like campy 80's horror you'll love this book. I'd say the 3rd was the weakest as the author stretched my disbelief a bit too much for my taste and was more cheesy action then horror. CW for first two: a child is attacked in the first story but unsure if he dies. second story has a lot of detailed descriptions of child and animal death.

Historia
In Milwaukee, a regular at Vic’s Tavern suddenly smashes a beer bottle and carves up the other customers. In Manhattan, an easygoing cabdriver goes berserk and hurls his cab into a crowd of pedestrians. In Seattle, a young bride slashes her husband in a busy restaurant, then flings herself through a plate-glass window. At first, these shocking incidents appear unrelated. Then a disturbing pattern emerges - the agonizing headaches, the violent tantrums, the faces erupting with sickening lesions, then the final, fatal outburst.

Slower than a zombie shuffle
Revisado: 09-08-22
A strong, promising start with a story of a chemical causing rage zombies to pop off. Mix in a little evil corporation talk, a journalist digging up the truth, a scientist whose boss wants her to stop asking so many questions and you’re headed in the right direction. Followed by almost 7 chapters of filler. That plus the monotone narration had me spamming the skip button.

Disappointing
Revisado: 08-06-22
This was so disappointing after the action packed, gore splattered first two. Maybe it’s been so long between the second and this one I forgot his style, maybe it’s the narration and his lack of making anyone sound different, maybe it’s the “stay in one place” syndrome similar to TWD season 2, but holy crap this book was boring. From overly disjointed pacing to almost novice level writing but this book is putting me to sleep.

Sisters Sarah and Chloe inherit a house they could never have previously dreamed of owning. It seems too good to be true. Shortly after they move in, however, the siblings start to notice strange things: horrible smells, sudden drops in temperature as well as unexplainable sounds and feelings of being watched. All of that is compounded when they find a study upstairs, filled with occult items and a strange book written in Latin.

Not his best work
Revisado: 04-16-21
Gonna be honest, if I wasn’t such a fan of Lee’s previous work I probably would have given this one up. I’m about halfway through and the knowledge from the prequel book plus the magnetic tones of Mr Hill keep me going.
However.. the characters are annoying as hell. I don’t like any of them. The husband is a grouchy flip flop, the army sister is borderline bitchy most of the time, and the wife/mommy is just a control freak. I just don’t like them and I’m really disappointed with how he wrote them as all his previous books had at least one character I could connect with, but this time around everyone is just a group of rude horror cliches.

Fun, old horror with frustrating characters
Revisado: 11-30-20
As someone who gags at the sight of fungus and mold, I will admit this book made me uncomfortable and that’s not something many horror books have managed to do. But the main characters take this book downhill pretty quickly. You’ve got 3 stereotypes; the intelligent writer, the smoking hot scientist, the trigger happy army boy. So far, so clique.
Except all of them suck.
The writer is whiny and gets a thing up his rear about the doctor after barely knowing her, all he does is complain, and frankly the fungus infected people are more likable than he is. The doctor comes off as a strong independent woman to the point that it feels like a joke. “I can shoot, fight, fix cars, oh but I love being mistreated and having needless sex on a dangerous mission”. The army man is introduced and you think “maybe his redemption will come soon and he’ll be a badass this story needs”. Instead he’s just a plain ol’ ass and plays dick measuring contests with the writer.
Honestly this book doesn’t do anything new but it does do plenty wrong.

Wonderfully gory heartbreaking mess
Revisado: 01-14-20
So first off, the story involves a dog but it survives till the end so Lee gets bonus points for that. Secondly, if you follow his other stories this GREATLY expands his universe and leaves me wanting so, so, SOOOO much more!! This is not a happy book, but that’s what you should expect from Mr Mountford by now. I call his books “GOT but for horror” because NO ONE is safe. My only issue is it’s a slow start, but ends with a bang

A clunky, odd story
Revisado: 01-07-20
CW: children die
I don’t know what I was expecting from this book. The reviews made it sound like a possible zombie book, but different. The description made it sound like a mystery with a possible supernatural twist.
It starts off with a hook and gets you going right away, but then gets held down with clunky dialogue and weird character choices. I won’t spoil it but when the big mystery is finally hinted at, instead of unraveling over time it’s just kinda dropped out in the open and the characters react WAAAY too calmly. Then when all the twists are out in the open instead of being shocked or surprised I just sat there with a feeling of “what?”
Mix in a clunky narrator with off putting accent/reading choices, and it’s just all sorts of messy and off putting. I doubt I’ll be looking further into the series.

Abandon All Hope..
Revisado: 12-04-19
I LOVE Lee's books and own all of them so I knew what I was getting into, but I was really excited to find it expanded his mythos and the world he is creating. It's brutal, it's sad, it's never a happy ending. I highly recommend this for fans of his novels, but also for those who are more into the gut punching body horror than the old dusty ghosts kind of horror. Really hope to see more audio books from him and Mr Hill

Wonderful book with AMAZING performance
Revisado: 11-22-19
I feel like the other reviewers and I listened to different books. I freaking ADORED the sound effects, voices, music and production put into the book. When I bought the book, I was just looking forward to the continuation of the series. But the moment the music and voices started I got VERY excited, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
For example, there is a moment shared between two characters before something terrible happens. You know it’s going to happen, you know people are going to die, and it really hits home when you hear it happen with full effects. Hearing the sentence “the boat fired” is miles of difference that hearing “the boat fired”, followed by the sound of actual artillery fire.
