Unfortunately it was the narrator’s horrible pronunciation of so many names, places, and terms.

The story was interesting and well told. Walter Lord makes history accessible to a broad audience.

The narrator’s abysmal pronunciation of foreign names and terms, and especially his pronunciation of Nathaniel as Nay-thaniel.

The book was excellent but I did not enjoy the reader. He seemed to be making heavy weather of the reading, and his abominable pronunciation of foreign words made me cringe.

I have always enjoyed this charming story and in the past had a far better recording of it which I am unable to locate; hence the purchase of this audiobook. In this version, the voice of Bundle Brent sounds like that of an elderly spinster rather than that of a girl younger than Virginia Revel, and Anthony sounds like a man in his forties. A very disappointing and often irritating listen.

I am never disappointed by Dr. Liulevicius’ courses. I look forward to watching it listening to many more.

A good story, disappointing only in that the villains get away with their wicked deeds, unusual for Mrs. Murphy books.

I enjoy the Mrs. Murphy books a lot but continuity issues are annoying. In this book Harry’’s parents died when she was in her twenties, In other stories they were killed in an accident when she was a junior at Smith. There are other discrepancies scattered among the books, such as Boom-Boom having graduated from high school 2 years ahead of Harry but being in the same class in “Pawing Through the Past.” Such a talented writer should be able to keep the story straight.

I very much enjoyed this account of the Battle of the Philippine Sea. It provided much fascinating detail that would have been difficult to include in books about the Marianas campaign as a whole.

I have listened to about a dozen books about the Pacific War and was dismayed, though not surprised, to find that the narrator did a terrible job of pronouncing Japanese names and terms.

I have encountered this to a greater or lesser extent (mostly greater) in nearly every Pacific War narrative to which I have listened. It applies as well to most of the WWII in Europe that I have listened to.

It causes me to wonder why the producers of these audiobooks do not make sure the pronunciations are correct. It also makes me wonder how professional narrators can have so little respect for the material that they don’t take the trouble to make sure they are pronouncing things correctly. As noted by another reviewer, I also found the natrator’s voice rather irritating to listen to.

That being said, this book is a great listen for those who want to learn more about WWII in the Pacific.

I have read and/or listened to many books about the invasion of Normandy and am glad I decided to listen to another. I discovered in Dr. Symonds’ telling of this story many interesting people I had not previously encountered and learned new things about ones I had met before. I have acquired an even greater appreciation for the detailed planning and frequently incredible effort and bravery involved in executing the plans, particularly when circumstances do not cooperate.
I enthusiastically recommend this book to anyone interested in military history, naval warfare, or specifically in the Normandy Invasion.

I enjoyed the story as I have Ms. Paton Walsh's other Peter and Harriet stories, although I do not recall Dorothy Sayers having to rely on insanity as a murderer's motive.
I did not, however, enjoy the reader's narration. For one thing, he pronounced Bredon with a short "e," unlike the way it was pronounced on the PBS presentations or on audiobooks narrated by other readers. Moreover, all the characters, including the Oxford dons, sounded like working class people attempting refined speech and sounding stilted as a result. Most of the female voices, including Harriet's sounded very silly.
