First a disclaimer, you know like they do when NPR tells you "IBM is a sponsor..." I know Mark Cattano. The apprenticeship of a Wine Taster is a fast moving -exciting read and, a very entertaining listen. I read it then listened to it. So what would I expect from a talented musician and singer? Exactly what I got, a roller coaster ride on the NY drug, music, food/wine and mob scene with a killer road trip - critical to the story's journey.

I'm a New Yorker, through Marks writing and his voicing of the characters I was easily and quickly thrown back in time., I could hear, smell, taste and drink and be afraid of New York. Love it! All the good and lot of the bad. There is little if anything in this book that does not ring of authenticity, Mark lived this, to what degree? That's why we have imaginations. The character development is highly effective and the way the book begins will drop you right into the pulse of New York City. If you start this book out "deaf, dumb and blind" (Go Pete!) to what New York can be like you will have all your senses rattled, maybe even tuned up and you will have some brand new insight. This is quite the reality check up.

It's all here, the aspiring young musician working the music scene with his band. Bad decisions made by good people. The odorous wreaking of insanity held inside the murderous mob character - dripping with hate and vengeance. I have made many mistakes in my life and, anytime I have gone against my gut I have paid dearly. This is, for me a valued sub plot of this story, or maybe is the story, you decide. Mark, this was fabulous, can I say I am proud of you, I am. Peace, Love and Understanding, Scott.
