A writer who reads hiw own work
Revisado: 07-02-17
Would you try another book from Michael Wallis and/or Michael Wallis?
Probably not. I'm at the tenth chapter and his voice, initially nice sounding, fails to be expressive enough to keep my interest on the long run.
Would you be willing to try another book from Michael Wallis? Why or why not?
See above. His writing includes listings of lots of people, places and facts in a rather dry manner.
Would you be willing to try another one of Michael Wallis’s performances?
Certainly not.
What character would you cut from The Best Land Under Heaven?
I haven't read far enough yet. I may or may not finish this book.

Be sure you listen to the narrator before buying!
Revisado: 03-14-17
What would have made Fanny better?
The performance of the narrator. I just finished listening to excellent narrators of two other audible audiobooks under which Jong's Fear of Dying, and this doesn't come even close. I stopped listening after 15 minutes. That to think the recording is over 20 hours long!

Listening for the second time!
Revisado: 02-25-17
What did you love best about The Art of Racing in the Rain?
Wonderful story, heartfelt, sad and funny.
What did you like best about this story?
The story told from dog's perspective.
Which character – as performed by Christopher Evan Welch – was your favorite?
The dog's, naturally! Narrator does a great job on giving the dog a human voice, as the writer must have intended it.
Any additional comments?
I enjoy this book tremendously! I don't often listen to books twice. If you're considering reading the book or listening, I would opt for listening, just because the character of the dog becomes more alive this way.

Good Story, Author's Own Reading Not That Great
Revisado: 12-01-16
Would you listen to Lifelines again? Why?
Possibly not. This is not content related, but has to do with voice and cadence of speaking.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Lifelines?
It was the author's own story, her own experience how writing can be all important in life. That made the story truly worthwhile.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Pronunciation by-sounds while producing the words (dental work?)

Content good, rendition leaves to be desired
Revisado: 11-29-16
What did you love best about Writing Creative Nonfiction?
Nice course material for beginning nonfiction writers, divided up well.
Who was your favorite character and why?
N.A.
Would you be willing to try another one of Professor Tilar J J. Mazzeo’s performances?
I doubt that.
Any additional comments?
Pity that the tone and sound of her voice and the cadence of her speaking is rather grating and in time hard to bear. It takes away from the content, which is good.

Scott's as good as ever
Revisado: 04-23-12
I'm a fan of all of Scott's works, and this was his last audiorecording. It was recorded when he was already ill and didn't have the energy to record this book all by himself. That's why he had someone else speak about half of this recording. Since I like Scott's way of presenting his own work, I thought this was a pity. Still, this is a very worthwile listen for anyone, and certainly not to be missed by the fans of Scott Peck.

The year is 1925. It is sixty degrees below zero. The wind sweeps tons of snow over the deep-frozen Alaskan landscape. The nearest railhead is seven hundred miles away. Airplanes cannot fly. The way to Nome is blocked by a treacherous frozen sound, an icebound port, and mountains to the west. But there is a diphtheria epidemic in Nome. The children need serum from the outside world if they are to survive. Their only hope is a few chosen Eskimo drivers and their teams of dogs.

I've listened to 90 min. of this title, and can already say that it's going to be one of my favorite listens so far.
The story and Alaska's scenery are wonderfully worded, and all is beautifully narrated.

I appreciate this book . I also own the hardcopy, but prefer the spoken word in this case, also because it is narrated by a person whose first language is English. The information is extremey worthwile, and I enjoy reading the book in addition to listening the audio version. I highly recomend this title; I find it the best of all his books.
