I only have an hour left, so I'm going to finish, but I am frustrated. Out H is emotionally devastated by the loss of his entire future and what does our h do? Take one offhand, drunk comment to heart because "drunk words are unfiltered" or whatever, and damn near ruins her relationship with a very good man because of it.
I rolled my eyes so hard I heard a buzzing noise, I swear to gods.

Bad communication and emotional selfishness ruins so many of my romance listening experiences.

I'm getting too old for this

I liked this book well enough, thr romance was cute, the sex scenes were well executed, and the intrigue was realistic.
But seriously, I spent most of Thomas' scenes wondering why a billionaire doesn't just go to therapy? Like really, stop with the unhealthy coping mechanisms, stop letting your father manipulate and abuse you, for the love of God get a therapist. Sheesh!

Not necessarily trigger warning worthy but "someone handcuffed naked to a bed while another person touches them against their will" is a terrible trope and I hate it. I couldn't make it more than 15 minutes into the first story before I knew I had to return it. Completely squicked me out.

So much angst!

I'm going to finish this book, because I feel like I have to finish all books I start, but right now I'm several hours in and it's all angst and poor communication and a girl who swears she'll "never let a man treat her badly again" while she continues to be treated badly by her shitty boyfriend.

Meanwhile I'm just shooting at my speakers going "find a roommate at college! Get an apartment! Have sex with the 38 year old hottie, or don't! But please stop pretending like you're a doormat with no options, come on!"

Narrators are fabulous. Story is written well it's just infuriating!

Not my thing

I didn't really realize what I was getting when I borrowed this book. This isn't my kind of kink so I stopped because it was a little weird for me.

If this is your thing I think you will enjoy it! The characters are good and the writing is strong. Narrators did a lovely job. I applaud Jade West for her talents!

I gave this one a shot but honestly I didn't enjoy it I made it to the end but I am wishing I didn't, I want that time back.
A long, meandering story with so much beautiful descriptive language supporting nothing. And so many unanswered questions! I mean, a pretty important character disappears 3/4 of the way through the book and we just never find out what happened to him?! And when they finally catch the suspect (after knowing who he was for at least half of the book) that's it: no confession, no discussion of the consequences, just...ends. I found no satisfaction in this book. I will be returning it.

Cute love story

A great go-to if you're looking for a nice love story.

I had some issues with it, the greatest of which is this: if either Sam or Ian had just said "I have been in love with you for 3 years, we should be together" this story never would have happened. Like, I get it, people have anxiety about their emotions, but instead of just telling Sam how he felt, Ian had to go through this weird seduction game. Instead of telling Ian how she felt, Sam just had a weird melt down.

Communication is so often lacking in romance novels. I don't know why I'm surprised.

I am moved and I am grateful

Every woman struggling to find herself, and her power, in a world that feels like it is constantly taking more than it gives should read this book.

Every mother who looked into the face of their child and knew, desperately, that loving them, protecting them, and letting them go would be the trial they may not survive should read this book.

Anyone who wants to know what it's like to be so moved by a line in a book that you stop to cry in the diaper aisle of the grocery store should read this book. (Ok, maybe this one is just me)

I am so grateful to have experienced this.

(I understand the language and lore can be difficult for people. I encourage you to visit Madeline Miller's website where she has compiled a great encyclopedia of characters and reference material. It helped me a lot to refer to her notes when I wanted to get more information on a character.)

I guess I'm just sick of "romance"?

I finished this book because I was just making my way through a work day and needed something to listen to but honestly it drove me crazy.
I could not find it in me to be very sympathetic for Theresa.
I mean, really. She actually lied to Ryan at the bar about her name and occupation, and called it a "victimless crime", then got all bitchy when he became upset with her. He never lied to her about who he was or his relationship status, but she refused to accept his honesty (or even listen to him), and instead chose to take the word of a woman she didn't know who called her a C-word.
Like look, I know you have problems and your ex messed with your brain or whatever but please...if you don't have the basic decency to have a serious and considerate conversation with a man you thought you were in "insta-love" with then you really don't deserve to have a relationship. Insta or otherwise.

I guess I just don't have the patience for romance novels that build themselves on a foundation of piss-poor communication. Time to move on to mysteries and sci-fi in my 30s.

Agatha's Best

This has always been my favorite of Agatha Christie's novels. I'm very glad to finally have the audiobook!

Dan Stevens does an excellent job distinguishing between the 10 main characters.

I have no criticism for this classic.
