Historia
Dominic Ramos is a Premiership football player with a secret. There are no trophies for being gay in his game. Locked into his rep as the meanest defender on the pitch, keeping his secret is soul-crushing, but love has no place in his sport, even if his soft heart craves it. Lucky Coleman is on his knees when he meets a man with more money than sense. It's a Grindr hook-up for cash, not a love match, but dreaming of his desperate, kind eyes earns a place amongst his numerous bad habits.

Good story, but didn't like the narration
Revisado: 01-10-25
I really enjoyed the story. Both characters had a lot to overcome and it kept me engaged. However I didn't enjoy the narration at all. The narrator basically used some weird gruff voice for Dom's character, making him sound so old and grumpy when he was supposed to be 27 years old. But the story was enough to keep going all the way to the end and I'm glad I did.

Historia
Holly owns the merriest holiday shop on Main Street. But right next door is the hardware store run by Declan Gallagher, the grinchiest man in all of Mistletoe, Idaho. With Christmas fast approaching, the small-town rivals engage in an all-out prank war, sending each other not-so-friendly season’s greetings. But when Holly’s ambitious plan to win the town’s Festival of Lights falls apart, she has no one else to call but her handy sworn-nemesis.

Prank wars and adults acting like children
Revisado: 12-17-24
I find the idea that if someone isn't totally, 1000% in love with Christmas that they're a bad person or there's something wrong with them really annoying. Holly went out of her way to bug her neighbor who seemed to be perfectly fine ignoring Christmas. And then she trespassed into his store and then vandalized his car and had the nerve to act so haughty when he demanded she repay him for damage she caused. She had no idea what was going on in his life that made him not like the Christmas season. Yet instead of trying to understand or show any kind of empathy, she started a prank war. And yet, he still found her charming? How old are these people??
Based on the reviews, maybe I have more in common with the Christmas-hating guy than I thought because I appear to be in the minority here.

A Great Sequel/Prequel
Revisado: 10-16-24
This was a beautifully written book that weaves the past with the future in such an interesting way. I loved seeing Kodiak's soft side. And the kids were really well developed and so distinct. The narrator did a wonderful job of making so many voices and accents very distinctly and I never got confused about who was speaking. I loved it.

Historia
A tour-de-force debut novel about a Two-Spirit Indigiqueer young man and proud NDN glitter princess who must reckon with his past when he returns home to his reserve. “You're gonna need a rock and a whole lotta medicine” is a mantra that Jonny Appleseed, a young Two-Spirit/Indigiqueer, repeats to himself in this vivid and utterly compelling debut novel by poet Joshua Whitehead.

Gritty and beautiful
Revisado: 09-14-23
This was such a fantastic book! It was so unapologetically honest about what life as an Indigenous, queer, Two-Spirit person coming of age and discovering himself, including his sexuality, family relationships, and his friendship/relationship with his longtime friend Tias.
Told from the book's protagonist, Jonny, it switches back and forth between present day life as a sex worker in a big city—which he never sugar coats, nor feels ashamed for—and stories of growing up on the reservation, including the beautiful love between him and his grandmother (kokum). While it's a work of fiction, it's esay to see that a lot of it is based on the author's real life experiences.
The book (at least the audio) has a rhythm to it that feels like poetry, fast-paced and never dragging.
It's not a romance (although there is a lot about the romantic relationship between Jonny and Tias) and it's not a feel-good story, but I finished it and immediately wanted more. I felt so much love for Jonny by the end and was really happy that I read this. I will definitely read more of Joshua Whitehead's work.

Beautiful Story
Revisado: 07-27-23
Have you ever read a book that just makes you feel every single emotion possible? This one hit all the feels for me. It’s the story of Eke and Kyp, two AIs in human form who work for a wealthy family. They form a bond, both realizing they are developing human-like emotions, eventually leading to love, and risk everything to protect one another.
Eke is so sweet, so beautifully innocent. He loves his potted flowers, the fish, and Buster Keaton. All he wants is a friend, and to see the stars at night. When Kyp, a shiny, handsome new AI is brought into the family, Eke is excited to finally have a friend. The two get off to a rough start, but form a bond that turns into real, undeniable love.
There were some parts that were hard to read, especially those with Carson, who seemed to enjoy taunting and hurting others. Definitely read the CWs and TWs.
This was such an unexpected and beautifully written book. Definitely one the best I’ve read this year. Michael Crouch's narration was fantastic!

Crying happy tears
Revisado: 06-07-23
Another amazingly sweet and beautiful book by Cat Sebastian. The characters come to life with the writing and I found myself fully immersed in every scene like I was watching a movie.
Nick and Andy are a perfect match and the inner struggles they both faced to be together were heartbreaking. I adored this book.

Historia
The Santos Vista neighborhood of San Antonio, Texas, is all Ander Martínez has ever known. The smell of pan dulce. The mixture of Spanish and English filling the streets. And, especially their job at their family's taquería. It's the place that has inspired Ander as a muralist, and, as they get ready to leave for art school, it's all of these things that give them hesitancy. That give them the thought, are they ready to leave it all behind?

Beautifully colorful and sweet
Revisado: 05-09-23
I am in awe of how perfectly the author has told such a sweet and tender story infused with enough sass and color to keep if fun and light in parts while presenting the heavy, dark realities of life for undocumented immigrants in a grim light, but still managing to keep it all so hopeful.
Ander is such a sassy character and I love him so much. And Santi is quiet and beautiful. My heart broke for the two of them time and again, but the way it ended was like a wonderful gift.
I especially loved all of the imagery and food that was sprinkled throughout the book. I felt like I was watching a movie rather than listening to an audiobook.
