I find the advice a bit confusing

This book has been illuminating in several ways and the overall effect has been beneficial but I did feel a bit lost towards the end and the advice felt a bit contradictory and confusing in its conclusion. He speaks of being with the pain/tightness/ache/emptiness inside your heart (or wherever it manifests in the body) and doing so without trying to fix it or attribute any stories/reasons/causes to it. Just allowing yourself to be with it. But then, right at the end of the book seemingly out of nowhere the advice speaks of rejecting this judgmental or wounded feeling or the beliefs or wounds that came about as a result of these false beliefs about the self. He compares these untrue self judgements with going around telling people you’re not a llama to prove to yourself that you’re not a llama instead of just dispelling the thought of being a llama. He says our feelings of inadequacy, brokenness, unlovableness etc is equally as “goofy” as the thought of being a llama. So just don’t associate with it. Just reject it as being part of who you are. So which is it? Be with the ache and sit with the uncomfortable feeling or dismiss it as being as ridiculous as the thought of being a llama instead of a human being? And then, how does one just do that? I can easily agree that I am not a llama and don’t need to walk around saying I am not a llama to believe this to be true. But my beliefs about my self-worth, value and shortcomings are not quite as easy to dismiss. The book had me rooting for it for 95% of the journey and then this little llama section at the end left me completely flummoxed. I would love to find someone who could explain this to me. Maybe I’ve just got the wrong end of the llama.

I learned so much. There were some sections that I struggled to push through though and unfortunately there are times when the author’s voice could use a bit more inflection or emotion but the last few chapters and the vulnerability shared make it all worthwhile. Very thought provoking. I love to geek out on this stuff.

These two books were such a delightful distraction for a stressful few weeks. The fact that this kind of love exists in your imagination makes me hopeful that a semblance of it can be found out here in harsh reality. Thank you.

A welcome flight of fancy on every drive to work. These books got better and better and Gary Furlong is an exceptional voice actor. I’ll be searching for more from Dal.

Superb performance of an all-time classic that has yet to be accurately represented in film.

The narration from the dog’s perspective is very annoying at first but you get used to it. What I like about the story is that it unfolds in an unexpected way. You have no idea what the hell is going to happen next.

I am really enjoying how my emotions are being manipulated by this writer. It feels a bit like watching a pro gymnast doing a series of cartwheels - effortless. She hardly seems to flex what I sense is a warehouse of skill. So glad I discovered this world she’s woven. It’s also fabulously queer but in an elegant and understated way. I’m a fan, clearly.

A good story, well told. I have enjoyed all three instalments of the adventures of Adam Binder and I appreciate how carefully the author thought out every aspect of the narrative and wove it all together so well. Satisfying. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I don’t know why I do this to myself, really.
I enjoy the story crafting of Alexis Hall so much and the telling of it by Joe Jameson is so provocative and delicious that when these books come to an end I find myself at a loss. Quite miserable actually.

It’s this weirdly satisfying peak as it draws to a conclusion followed by a twang of disappointment that it’s come to an end. I have separation anxiety. It’s like I’ve now been dumped by Luke and Oliver after a wonderful throuple they were completely unaware existed. And Joe Jameson’s voice. Good grief. What mortal man’s tone will ever be able to hold a candle to his loin-stirring interpretation of Oliver Blackwood.

I am now that guy who’s ideal man is a character in an audiobook. Albeit a particularly compelling one. Sigh. And what’s worse… I know that I’ll be first in line to download the very next Joe and Alexis collaborative project because -delicious, bittersweet, compelling etc- and clearly I am a bugger for punishment. Again. Again. Please. It’s lonely out here.

I’m not all that kinky myself. Let’s just say that I’ve always been more partial to a good quality vanilla ice cream myself. However, this book gave me an insight into the psychology and emotional aspects of BDSM in such a way that I actually “got it” for the first time. Alexis is a marvel. I cringed with the characters as much as I laughed and cried with them. Came dangerously close to feeling like I was in the thick of their more intimate communions too. I felt like I lived this book in a way and I feel richer for it.
