Historia
Winston Smith works in the Ministry of Truth—or Minitrue as it is called in Newspeak—where he alters newspapers and reports to follow the arbitrary dictates of Big Brother’s propaganda. Beneath his outward conformity, however, Winston dreams of sharing his treasonable thoughts and breaking through the loneliness in which he lives. Thus he takes his first dangerous steps, writing a diary of his doubts and then falling in love with a woman of the Party, the beautiful and brave Julia.

Cautionary Classic
Revisado: 05-01-25
Story is a warning against authoritarianism with concepts still relevent today (especially in the US)(writing this is 2025). Narration is also on point. Definitely recommend a listen.

Never read this, but definitely understand why it's considered such a classic. Tim Curry is on point as always.

Queenie is the aging matriarch of the Faraday family, and even death can’t break her hold over her 11-year-old granddaughter, Rowan. She’s buried with a locket that contains a lock of Rowan’s hair, and soon afterwards, Rowan is befriended by a mysterious, uncannily intelligent girl of her own age. Only her aunt Hermione suspects how sinister this is, but will retrieving the locket save her niece? By the time anyone sees what effect the ghostly influence on Rowan is having, it may be too late for her.

Slow, but with a decent ending.
Revisado: 05-07-24
Voice actress does an excellent job. I had a lot of trouble getting into the story at first though. It feels really telegraphed up until about the 30th chapter or so. I almost gave it a 3 star review at first. I didn't like it as much as The Hungry Moon or Think Yourself Lucky. But I gave it a four star rating because I think the payoff at the end is worth the wait.

Historia
Brian Evenson’s hallucinatory and darkly comic stories of paranoia, pursuit, sensory deprivation, amnesia, and retribution rattle the cages of the psyche and peer into the gaping moral chasm that opens when we become estranged from ourselves. From sadistic bosses with secret fears to a woman trapped in a mime’s imaginary box, and from a post-apocalyptic misidentified Messiah to unwitting portraitists of the dead, the mind-bending world of this modern-day Edgar Allan Poe exposes the horror contained within our daily lives.

Maybe I just didn't get it?
Revisado: 05-03-24
Voice actor was great. No complains. Fugue State and The Adjudicator are both worth waiting for. Maybe I just didn't get the other stories? I didn't like this book as much as The Burning Glassy Floor of Hell or Last Days. There's a few stories about children left alone that kind of remind me of Skinamarink minus the supernatural element. I felt like I was waiting for a payoff that never came. But maybe the stories just went over my head.

Historia
In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake.

Points for Style
Revisado: 07-28-23
Really cool story if not a little disjointed. Has flashbacks that kind of jump genres at times but overall has a weird west feel to it. Does have a fair bit of philosophical mysticism to it as well. Read this before listening to it and forgot a lot because of time jumps and such. Might have liked it more the first time. Some of King's weird views on sexuality bothered me more this time around. Narrator is talented, but I didn't like him personally. He just didn't seem to fit the feel of the story for me I guess? Not his fault. Just my preference. Not at all familiar with the sequels other than that I've heard they tie King's creative universe together. Very excited to hear where the rest of the series goes. Kind of wanna check out the movie despite hearing it was completely awful, mostly because of how cool the overall aesthetic is.

Historia
Still reeling from a brutal dismemberment, detective Kline is forcibly recruited to solve a murder inside a religious cult that takes literally the New Testament idea that you should cut off your hand if it offends you. Armed only with his gun, his wits, and a gift for self-preservation, Kline must navigate a gauntlet of lies, threats, and misinformation. All too soon he discovers that the stakes are higher than he thought and that his survival depends on an act of sheer will.

Very Niche
Revisado: 06-30-23
Is amazing for what it is, but might not appeal to a larger audience. If you want a bizarre, surreal noir that is a satire of religion then you'll love this book. If you're religious, squeamish about gore or find absurdism frustrating, I wouldn't read this. The narrator does a very good job as well. If you liked Mandy with Nicholas Cage, you'll probably enjoy this as well.
