Historia
Four decades after it first shook the nation, then the world, William Peter Blatty's thrilling masterwork of faith and demonic possession returns in an even more powerful form. Raw and profane, shocking and blood-chilling, it remains a modern parable of good and evil and perhaps the most terrifying novel ever written.

Unbelievably Good!
Revisado: 04-22-25
I've watched the movie several times, and this book made it so much more fully, especially the introspections, the role of the detective, the brilliant interlocutions.....awesome!

The Peace of Amiens has left Jack Aubrey with no ship, no enemy to pursue, and no possibility of prize money to supplement his meager income. His decision to seek refuge from his troubles, and creditors, in France proves doubly disastrous.

Addicting, informative, educational, a favorite. I'm rereading the entire 21 book series again. I don't remember ever having had such pleasure or so many books and the narration is unmatched.

AWESOME! I have been living these stories
Revisado: 02-23-24
The narration by Patrick Tull is absolutely without comparison. I'm grateful to Patrick O'Brien and Patrick Tull, both dead, but both who have lived in my experience of Patrick's story and Tull's conveyance of it. I have never, and all the many hundreds or thousands of books I have read and listen to, had the experience... truly the experience of this 21 book series. Thank you to both! Wherever you are.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

An engaging story, great narrators
Revisado: 12-18-23
I am something of an officionado of psychology and related subjects, this book added a neat twist to it. The ending is quite nice and intriguing, and unless you're an emergency medical professional, willl seem plausible.

Historia
The struggle between Rome and Carthage in the Punic Wars was arguably the greatest and most desperate conflict of antiquity. The forces involved and the casualties suffered by both sides were far greater than in any wars fought before the modern era, while the eventual outcome had far-reaching consequences for the history of the Western World, namely the ascendancy of Rome. An epic of war and battle, this is also the story of famous generals and leaders: Hannibal, Fabius Maximus, Scipio Africanus, and his grandson Scipio Aemilianus, who would finally bring down the walls of Carthage.

I will read any book by Adrian Goldsworthy. Always leave feeling richer and understanding of the past and I appreciate his touching upon parallels of our current times.

Historia
Of the 30 million who fought in the eastern front of World War II, 8 million died, driven forward in suicidal charges, shattered by German shells and tanks. They were the men and women of the Red Army, a ragtag mass of soldiers who confronted Europe's most lethal fighting force and by 1945 had defeated it. Sixty years have passed since their epic triumph, but the heart and mind of Ivan - as the ordinary Russian soldier was called-remain a mystery. We know something about how the soldiers died, but nearly nothing about how they lived, how they saw the world, or why they fought.

Deeply insightful, revealing, and utterly human
Revisado: 09-01-19
The author takes us through WWII through Soviet eyes, both official and from the unheard 'masses.' In this regard the book is already exceptional. I appreciate the author's own gradually developed understanding about some of the reasons behind the reticence of former Soviet soldiers. A must read for anyone interested in WWIs European theater
