Historia
Roach would rather be listening to the latest episode of her favorite true crime podcast than assisting the boring and predictable customers at her local branch of the bookstore Spines, where she's worked her entire adult life. A serious true crime junkie, Roach looks down her nose at the pumpkin-spice-latte-drinking casual fans who only became interested in the genre once it got trendy. But when Laura, a pretty and charismatic children's bookseller, arrives to help rejuvenate the struggling bookstore branch, Roach recognizes in her an unexpected kindred spirit.

Why did I finish this
Revisado: 07-17-24
The longest, most drawn out book where nothing happens. And it was gross- author obsessed with nasty smells??

Historia
Detective Angie Pallorino hasn't forgotten the violent rapist who left a distinctive calling card—crosses etched into the flesh of his victim's foreheads. When a comatose Jane Doe is found in a local cemetery, sexually assaulted, mutilated, and nearly drowned, Angie is struck by the eerie similarities to her earlier unsolved rapes. Could he be back?

It gets longer the more you listen
Revisado: 04-04-23
I feel like I've been listening to this for a month (I usually listen to 3 a week) and I still have 9 hours and 28 minutes left. Nothing has happened except gory graphic gratuitous violence against women. Don't get me wrong, I like a good slasher, but the descriptive female circumcision they keep going on about is a bit much. We get it. The narrator/every woman sounds like she's on the verge of hysteria and bursting into tears the whole time. It's so annoying I can only take it in small doses. I'm giving up and saving myself and I never do that. Usually I'm in until the bitter end, but this one is different.

I've missed him so much!
Revisado: 10-04-17
I listen to a lot of audio books at work-- very solitary job-- and I realize how much garbage I've been listening to. I could not do my work and concentrate on this book! Harlan Coben is so twisty and thoughtful with his mysteries!! I had to stop everything and JUST LISTEN. I've missed HC so much (I've read them all) and I love love love Steven Weber. I wish he could narrate my life.

How many epilogues does it take...
Revisado: 06-16-17
What would have made Too Late better?
Another female narrator. Less "epilogues"
What was most disappointing about C. Hoover’s story?
The story could have been Ok, but it supposedly wrapped up with four hours left in the book. Then, we were subjected to numerous epilogues. I lost count of how many there were. Definition of epilogue: "a section or speech at the end of a book or play that serves as a comment on or a conclusion to what has happened." Let's face it-- what the author wrote were merely more "chapters." So frustrating to listen to. What in the world? Oh another thing-- the lame story line that the cops/ DA would not charge/ prosecute the bad guy FOR SHOOTING A COP IN COLD BLOOD because they wrote it off as a love triangle?? PLEASE. Just stop it.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The vocal pattern of the female narrator was like nails on a chalkboard. Why did she drag her words out at the end of each sentence? Her voice was deep and husky so she sounded way too old to be the innocent college girl described in the story. Maybe she was a smoker? Maybe she was attempting to enlist a little (annoying) "vocal fry" to make herself sound younger, but she missed the mark. Terribly. I didn't have any feeling for her because she annoyed me so bad.The two male narrators were fine.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Annoyance. Epilogue: I don't think the writer actually has a sense of how the justice system works. Cops do not operate the way she portrayed them in this book. They have training you know. This main guy was more like a pizza guy.

Great story. Unfortunately Siri was the narrator.

Great story! But it was EXCRUCIATING to listen to the female narrator's awful deliver in her robot voice. Oh, and when she talked baby talk- cringe worthy.
