Like Notting Hill but with ladies
Revisado: 02-06-25
The beginning was a bit hard to get into and its felt a bit like Notting Hill but with two women, but I thought the author did a good job with their characters and how people deal with their own past traumas.
This is one of those rom com books that will make you go on a little rollercoaster of emotions but in the end you'll feel warm and fuzzy.
Fair warning but theres many delicous spicey scenes, so maybe don't listen to this when people are around. It was the highlight of the book for me. But let's be real ✂️ing is over used and over hyped.
Overall it didn't blow my mind but it was pretty enjoyable. I loved the narrator as well, she did an awesome job and has a lovely voice!

Hilarious and exciting
Revisado: 02-04-25
I loved this book so much!! I couldn't stop listening. I laughed so much and I was emotionally invested in all the characters. The writing was clever and enjoyable and the narrators did an excellent job! I loved that this was lgbtq inclusive and it was amazing that the two female leads have a thing, even though their personalities differ so much. Don't hesitate to listen or read this book!! I am recommending this book to everyone I know.

Revisado: 02-01-25
This audio book is amazing! The writing is amazing and poetic, the romantic tension is scrumptious, the mystery, suspense and action is so fun. I loved the plot and the characters the whole time! And the narrators? I applaud their work and could listen to their voices forever. What an amazing job for everyone who worked on this! I only wish more people could write books like this. Me and my wife can't wait to listen to the second book when its out!! ❤️

Finally adventure with women loving women!
Revisado: 01-10-25
I think I've been waiting my whole life for this book! There's not much out there with adventure fantasy representing lesbians who are in love. I feel so happy to be taken on this journey! She really captures a 16 year old who is naive really accurately and I love the morals in this story. I would like to go back in time with this book and give it to my teen self!! Highly recommend, more people should read or listen to this. Also the reader Suzy Jackson does an amazing job!

Historia
Free-spirited and easygoing Taylor Vandenberg left her hometown of Faircombe, Tennessee, as soon as she could, and in the twenty-five years since, she has rarely looked back. She wouldn't change anything about how her life has turned out—having traveled to nearly every country, never staying anywhere long enough to feel stifled. Brooke Watson has known Taylor for her entire life, and lifelong knowledge means that Brooke knows she's trouble: irresponsible, takes nothing seriously, and irritatingly attractive.

With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century.

Couldn't stop listening to jt
Revisado: 05-13-24
At first I was bummed not to continue Katsa's story but then I fell in love with Fire. I had to hold myself back from listening to it all in one go! Highly recommend, love all the strong intelligent female characters and also the men who are truly good and kind in this book. Love the slow burn romance and that Fire and the other ladies don't go gaga in love with male love interests like in some other books I've read. They have strong morals and ethics and are so admirable and strong because of that. I also liked that it tied into the bad guy character beginnings and gave some explanation about him. Some of the plot twists in the book I didn't see coming and some things were pretty predictable. Some points in the book are a bit drawn out but it's also more realistic that way. Regardless if that, I am enjoying this series immensely and highly recommend it to family and friends.

Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

wait what?
Revisado: 03-15-24
The narrator was amazing and that was the only reason I pushed to listen to the whole thing. Otherwise I was completely lost with what was happening. Not enough context about this world and why things are they way they are. Felt like a strange confusing video game with weird monsters, murder, mystery, necromancy and space all thrown together.
As a lesbian I felt sad there was no real sapphic romance, just moments of the main character Gideon admiring the ladies. I just feel terrible for her and for the love she never receives. I understand why she angry and sarcastic and rude all the time. She was the only interesting character to me. But it doesn't make sense for her to be willing to risk her life for Harrow at all. The dynamic of the two felt all over the place to me
In general there's way too many characters to follow and not many are that interesting. Some moments feel rushed through or unecessarily too drawn out. Basically if you don't pay attention you will be lost. Not great for audio book multi-taskers.
Not sure what the hype is about honestly. The concept really drew me in but in fell flat for me. And the ending was like.. wait what? I wouldn't recommend this to my friends.

Terrible narrators
Revisado: 09-11-23
The narrator made the main character so whiney that I wasn't sure I could bear to listen to it all but I wanted to give it a chance. The story is not original, but it's interesting, the hearts glass was my favorite idea. There was too much time spend on details of clothing at times I got bored and spaced out. I've only read the first book and was bummed that the main character was not LGBTQ, but very hetero and very basic. Prince Kance just smiles at her and she instantly falls for him. There is Lhik, who is trans which is great but the character is so very minor in the book. The male narrator was too monotone, I would get bored when it would jump to the future perspective. Zoya just reminded me of from Shadow and Bone? Not sure if it was just a coincidence though.
I think this book has a lot of potential to improve, but I don't know if it will. Either way, I don't think I'll keep reading it to find out unfortunately. I do recommend to spare your ears from the terrible whining of the narrator and just read the physical book instead if the story interests you.

Farleigh is just an orphanage–at least, that's what the church would have the people believe. But beautiful orphans Nox and fae-touched Amaris know better. They are commodities for sale, available for purchase by the highest bidder. So when the madame of a notorious brothel in a far-off city offers a king's ransom to purchase Amaris, Nox ends up taking her place—while Amaris is drawn away to the mountains, home of mysterious assassins.

My review after reading the first and second book:
Revisado: 08-29-23
Spoilers included below
This is not a Sapphic novel. If you came here looking for romance between women, you will be disappointed. Nox has a one sided love for Amaris for 21 years which lasts a book and a half and then she decides she likes a man (even after her hatred towards men and her constant traumatic sexual encounters with them as a sex slave). Suddenly everything is super hetero for both female leads and their affection for each other seems like a passing thought. Especially for Amaris, who since the beginning abandons Nox and never comes back for her knowing that she left her behind in a very bad place. So just a heads up about that.
The relationship between Amaris and Gadriel is so appallingly abusive. But if you like books where male characters don't respect women's boundaries and the female character hate/loves the abusive, then this book is for you. At one point in the second book Gadriel tells her that they have a safe word for intense training, then decides the best thing is to strangle her while she sleeps. After she manages to fight him off, he gets annoyed she that she is not only upset with him but that she didn't say the safe word he gave her (while he choked her of all air and thought). He claims he didn't intend to hurt her (even though her throat is bruised) and it was all for her own good. Not to mention their eventual smut scene together in book 2 which is completely focused on his pleasure and I'm sure most women reading would prefer intimacy where it's focused on a woman's satisfaction (as everything in this world is already so male dominated).
There's a lot of plot holes and things that could have been explained in a few short sentences, are instead rambled in paragraphs. I did appreciate Natalie Naudus's reading of the book, the folk lore and adventurous battles with monsters buuuut, the blatant racism (Amaris keeps calling Gadriel dark fae and he tells her it's racist), Amaris's terrible personality and the mindless mooning over abusive men was just too much. I would not recommend this book to anyone, unless they are into Twilight and bad Witcher fanfiction maybe.
