Historia
Noted Mexican American journalist Alfredo Corchado refuses to shrink from reporting on government corruption, murders in Juarez, or the ruthless drug cartels of Mexico. One night, Corchado received a tip that he could be the next target of the Zetas, a violent paramilitary group - and that he had 24 hours to find out if the threat was true. Midnight in Mexico is the story of one man's quest to report the truth of his country - as he races to save his own life.

Great Performance
Revisado: 12-23-24
The story is exactly as it's sounds, a story of a reporter hiding from the cartel as they tell the story of how they hid and how they grew up. I was hoping to hear many stories of the crazy murders in Mexico but those were far and few. But the passion at which this narrator reads the story is from the heart of a biography.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Historia
Most people who resist logical thought in baseball preach "tradition" and "respecting the game". But many of baseball's traditions go back to the 19th century, when the pitcher's job was to provide the batter with a ball he could hit and fielders played without gloves. Instead of fearing change, Brian Kenny wants fans to think critically, reject outmoded groupthink, and embrace the changes that have come with the "sabermetric era".

If you love baseball then read something else
Revisado: 02-24-20
I love listening to baseball and positively influencing stories connected to the sport, this is NOT that. Brian Kenny thinks he knows better than everyone in history, of course except for Bill James who obviously knows better than any human being that ever lived. I wont say he makes all terrible points, otherwise I would give it 1 star, but this guy basically says managers are all useless and he could be a better manager than all of them. Kenny talks about how his statistics can always pin point when a pitchers stamina is gone and gives zero credit to the hitters, it MUST be their stamina. This guy kisses Bill James's butt through the entire book, plus gives himself credit for stuff he "should have said" but didn't because he of course already knew and it turned out true. He does a whole section on Ted Williams and Joe Dimaggio and who had a better season which was based on 100% of his statistics found but never mentioned how only around 50% of Ted Williams stats were tracked that year pitch per pitch. This guys is the worst, I never thought that until I listened to this horrible baseball audiobook. I couldn't wait for it to be over because he was so condescending to anyone who dared share a different view than him, such a disgusting way to look at baseball, only through statistics and the only statistics he believes matters, not other statistics other people value. Dont waste your time for baseball's sake.

Historia
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Historia
Mafia Prince is the first-person account of one of the most violent eras in Mafia history - "Little" Nicky Scarfo’s reign as boss of the Philly family in the 1980s - written by Scarfo’s underboss and nephew, "Crazy" Phil Leonetti. The youngest-ever underboss at the age of 31, Leonetti was at the crux of the violent downfall of the traditional American Mafia in the 1980s when he infiltrated Atlantic City after gambling was legalized, and later turned state’s evidence against his own.

Im not sure what the big deal is about this book
Revisado: 05-09-16
Would you try another book from Truman Capote and/or Scott Brick?
I really like the voice of Scott Brick it is clear and easy to listen to. The writting of Truman Capote almost at times seemed a little racist, but I just shook it off to old days talk.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
From the beggining to the middle of the book the ending was prety obvious, no real surprises which kind of sucks honestly. I was a little let down by the end truthfully, this wasnt a bad book just not anywhere near as good as other reviews say in my opinion.
What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?
Everything
Did In Cold Blood inspire you to do anything?
Nope
Any additional comments?
This was a good enough story to listen to it just didnt have any twist or turns, Scott Brick was perfect though.

Historia
Titan is the first full-length biography based on unrestricted access to Rockefeller’s exceptionally rich trove of papers. A landmark publication full of startling revelations, the book indelibly alters our image of this most enigmatic capitalist. Born the son of a flamboyant, bigamous snake-oil salesman and a pious, straitlaced mother, Rockefeller rose from rustic origins to become the world’s richest man by creating America’s most powerful and feared monopoly, Standard Oil. Branded "the Octopus" by legions of muckrakers, the trust refined and marketed nearly 90 percent of the oil produced in America.

A TRUE Biography on John D. Rockefeller
Revisado: 04-13-16
What did you like best about Titan? What did you like least?
This is an insanely deep biography, more than I bargained for to be honest. I do not want to knock this audiobook at all because I picked a book that was more than I could handle, that is just a personal preference.
Would you recommend Titan to your friends? Why or why not?
I would only recommend if you want to know absolutely everything about John D Rockefeller and his whole family, also this is book at times feels like its about Ida Tarball as much as it is about Rockefeller.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes thats just fine.
What else would you have wanted to know about Ron Chernow’s life?
N/A
Any additional comments?
This has some seriously deep background investigation on John D. Rockefeller so I can not for one second knock the author he did a very good deep job. I was not prepared for a 40 hr audiobook. So If you want to truly learn about John D. Rockefeller this is your book, if you are just mildly curious about John D. Rockefeller this is NOT your book.

An Alright Story with good Reading
Revisado: 02-27-16
What did you like best about The Misbegotten Son? What did you like least?
I liked best the behind the scenes type of stories from the people in the background of the story, the small details that were meaningful and the performance by the narrator. I also really like how crazy this story was, you would totally understand how you may have never heard of this guy because they would have a problem just filming a movie about this guy without making everyone vomit. This psychopath was really disturbed and disgusting.
What I liked LEAST was definitely the amount of chapters there were, I mean I swear it felt like every 2 minutes you would hear "Chapter 12" I am not kidding I was annoyed by the amount of times I heard that it was ridiculous. This story was overly drawn out with so much information that was not needed like they would talk about a doctor who looked into the situation and they would give the doctors upbringing and schooling and how he came into his degree and so on.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Well I believe it was kind of like watching a building get demolished and then turning your head just before it colapses and turning around and being like" really damn I missed it , the build up to the explosion was pretty good but a bit drawn out. But when the dramatic conclusion happened I swear I was like damn all those hours of build up for something that ended so quick I actually had to rewind the piece by about 30 seconds because I was like really was that it actually. The story was really way more in depth and detailed then the ending, in my opinion.
Have you listened to any of Kevin Pierce’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No I have not but he did an excellent job.
What else would you have wanted to know about Jack Olsen’s life?
N/A
Any additional comments?
This was not a bad book just not a good book a really in between, I would actually recommend it if it were shorter because besides it being good at times at other times it was so drawn out I had to actually fast forward it a little so I did daze out of attention. A very interesting crime situation though, intriguing crime case build.

All Around Great Listen
Revisado: 01-17-16
If you could sum up The Road Out of Hell in three words, what would they be?
Times Have Changed
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
I can't believe how different the world is now compared to back in the 1920's, the way the world works sure is shown in this book. The way women are perceived unmarried to the way child murderers are dealt with to the way America and Canada have a relationship. I was blown away about the truth behind this story to the way the world turns.
What does Anthony Flacco bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Anthony Flacco was brilliant in the way each character was portrayed differently, you always knew which character was speaking. The emotion he brought out of each character was amazing, when someone was scared or crying you could feel it. This man knows how to paint a picture with words, just right.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Most of this book emotionally moved me in so many ways, the decisions this kid had to make would turn your stomach and make you believe....would I do the same thing?!
Any additional comments?
Great story, from beginning to the end, If you want to experience true human emotion from horror, to fear, to heroic response this is the book. If you like True crime, this is a MUST hear. DO IT!
