Historia
Seeking women ages 18-32 to participate in a study on ethics and morality. Generous compensation. Anonymity guaranteed. When Jessica Farris signs up for a psychology study conducted by the mysterious Dr. Shields, she thinks all she’ll have to do is answer a few questions, collect her money, and leave. But as the questions grow more and more intense and invasive and the sessions become outings where Jess is told what to wear and how to act, she begins to feel as though Dr. Shields may know what she’s thinking...and what she’s hiding.

Predicatable - no surprise ending here
Revisado: 03-21-19
I was quite bored by this book. The story was neither mystery nor thriller. It was boring and predictable. I actually started skipping chapters at the end because it became painful to listen.

When Imogen returns to work at Glossy after six months away, she can barely recognize her own magazine. Eve, fresh out of Harvard Business School, has fired "the gray hairs", put the managing editor in a supply closet, stopped using the landlines, and hired a bevy of manicured and questionably attired underlings who text and tweet their way through meetings.

Absolutely entertaining
Revisado: 10-11-18
I’m not sure why this book didn’t get great reviews from everyone who’s read other books by this author. It’s adorable - and funny - and the humor is spot on. The narrator is hilarious and does a tremendous job embodying the different characters.
I would absolutely recommend this book. I laughed out loud many many times. And I learned some things about technology right along with the main character!

Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Yay - let's read about drug use...
Revisado: 10-21-14
Ok - the book starts great. I loved the beginning! Intriguing - setting itself up for a long, interesting listen... However, I found myself forcing my finger to press play to get through to the end of the book.
I just don't enjoy drug use - I don't enjoy reading about kids and parents and friends and loved ones using drugs. Perhaps great novels of the past that involved torturous relationships did it better - because cocaine and pot and acid weren't readily available to "help" describe the extreme mental anguish one suffers after trauma.
Great potential here... but did Tartt really have to base the majority of the book on drug use?

Historia
Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature. But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday.

Engaging and entertaining
Revisado: 10-21-14
At times I avoid book because I'm not particularly drawn to the topic - but after many good reviews and seeing the book turn up often, I'm persuaded.
Chasing Fire, like most of Nora Roberts' books, is a solid story line with passion and suspense built in. I enjoyed the characters and the narrator.

A chubby little girl with blond hair, blue eyes, and ordinary looks, Victoria Dawson has always felt out of place in her family, especially in body conscious Los Angeles. Be prepared to hear ice cream a lot!
Revisado: 10-21-14
I half-heartedly enjoyed this book. It's a book that was a light listen... one where you could set your phone down, go into the closet for a few minutes straightening things up - and return to find you've missed nothing.
The book was very repetitive - using her love of ice cream and bad food choices over and over and over...

Historia
Kim Miller is an immaculately put-together woman with a great career, a loving boyfriend, and a tidy apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. You would never guess that Kim grew up behind the closed doors of her family’s idyllic Long Island house, navigating between teetering stacks of aging newspapers, broken computers, and boxes upon boxes of unused junk festering in every room - the product of her father’s painful and unending struggle with hoarding. In this moving coming-of-age story, Kim brings to life her rat-infested home and her childhood consumed by concealing her father’s shameful secret from friends.

Great look into a personal issue
Revisado: 09-15-14
What a great look into the way families are affected by one of its member's illness, mental or physical. It was excellent - loved how it displayed how the child Kimberly saw the situation, described it with a child's eye... Then a teenager's shame and an adult's sense of responsibility.
I love when a book can draw you in because you have empathy or can relate to the specific topic. This was that for me.
Well worth the credit. Would recommend...

Tedious...
Revisado: 09-15-14
I had high hopes for this book... But with 4 hours remaining, I found myself skipping chapters hoping for the end.
The book just didn't hook me - the story line was tedious and drug on and on. I found myself wondering just where was this plot going? No momentum... just a circle of before/after.
I didn't finish the novel. I have a large library - I've only stopped listening to a few books. This, sadly, is one of them.

Quite possibly the worst narration choice ever
Revisado: 03-18-14
I apologize for being so blunt. The narrator is fine - however, he is completely wrong for this book. His voice is dull and boring - and the book isn't that electrifying to compensate. I would only recommend this book if you want to hear about a woman being taken advantage of over and over and over by a boring narrator.

Historia
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

A mother actually did it... she ran away from home
Revisado: 02-28-14
What mother doesn't want to get away at times? What mother doesn't wish that she could just walk away from all of the demands of home, children, spouse and peers?
This book is a solid story about a mother who checks out - and it's not just lighthearted... you get into the meat of a potential mental imbalance that cause a mother to leave her life.
Great narration - very well suited.
