Historia
What happens when a nineteen-year-old boy leaves home and heads into the jungles to evangelize a murderous tribe of South American Indians? For Bruce Olson, it meant capture, disease, terror, loneliness, and torture. But what he discovered through trial and error has revolutionized the world of missions. Bruchko, which has sold more than 300,000 copies worldwide, has been called "more fantastic and harrowing than anything Hollywood could concoct."

A Life with a purpose
Revisado: 08-06-18
I started out not sure if I wanted to listen to this book, but after the first 30 minutes I was hooked.
When a person has a purpose and commitment to that purpose that is founded in truth then great things can happen.
This was not only book about a spiritual journey but a book filled with adventure, didn't realize it had been around for so long.
Great find!!

Historia
When Kevin West resigned from his job as vice president of a bank in 1998 after making fraudulent loans, he spent the time before his trial managing a family-owned, small grocery store in Ironton, Ohio. Dealing with serious marriage problems and with a prison sentence almost certainly in his future, Kevin was overcome with remorse and without a scrap of hope. It was at his lowest moment that Kevin called out to a power beyond himself for help, and God answered his prayer in the form of an elderly vagrant named Don.

Dont discount true wisdom regardless of the source
Revisado: 08-23-16
I am familiar with these places so it was an interesting book to me.
It also made me realize how much I would discount someones ideas by the way they look or present themselves.
I will say this book made a positive impression on me.

Historia
Bronx-born top turret-gunner Arthur Meyerowitz was on his second mission when he was shot down in 1943. He was one of only two men on the B-24 Liberator known as Harmful Lil Armful who escaped death or immediate capture on the ground. After fleeing the wreck, Arthur knocked on the door of an isolated farmhouse, whose owners hastily took him in. Fortunately, his hosts not only despised the Nazis but had a tight connection to the French resistance group Morhange and its founder, Marcel Taillandier.

Excellent Story.
Revisado: 08-23-16
What made the experience of listening to The Lost Airman the most enjoyable?
I liked the way it was presented and the way it unfolded. I enjoy non fiction the best and exploring how people deal with adversity.
What other book might you compare The Lost Airman to and why?
Maybe Hero Found both deal with a mans struggle to survive and the toll it takes.
What about Jonathan Todd Ross’s performance did you like?
I thought he delivered a adequate performance.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Neither

Adventure but little excitement.
Revisado: 10-01-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I felt the book could have been shortened by 1 hour to 1.5
Would you recommend The Lost City of Z to your friends? Why or why not?
I would recommend it but with the caveat that it was longer than necessary to be truly exciting.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The performance was fine and suited the contents of the book.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Maybe as the visual and soundtrack would bring out more of the story. And one would assume it would be 2 hrs or less.
Any additional comments?
Not that I don't commit to longer books 11-14 hours this book just didn't sustain the excitement I was hoping as an abridged version may have

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Wanting success for another as much as yourself.
Revisado: 08-23-13
If you could sum up The Boys in the Boat in three words, what would they be?
Winning requires trust.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Joe, what a lot for a young man to endure I admire his spirit and his ability to grow, very inspiring, the men from this era are truly special.
Have you listened to any of Edward Herrmann’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I listened to Unbroken and this was just as good. Herrmann is my favorite I look for books that he narrates.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The beauty of true teamwork gives more to a man than just a victory!
Any additional comments?
The book was well written and performed the story could be used as material for a college course or church sermon series. I was impressed by its depth.

Historia
Four days before Christmas in 1943, a badly damaged American bomber struggled to fly over wartime Germany. At its controls was a 21-year-old pilot. Half his crew lay wounded or dead. It was their first mission. Suddenly a sleek, dark shape pulled up on the bomber’s tail - a German Messerschmitt fighter. Worse, the German pilot was an ace, a man able to destroy the American bomber with the squeeze of a trigger.

Great story of honor and chivalry!
Revisado: 04-25-13
What did you love best about A Higher Call?
I like the perspective of the German side and that not all Germans were Nazi's but dedicated soldiers.
What other book might you compare A Higher Call to and why?
My favorite so far has been Unbroken and this story was close.
Unbroken was more extensive but this centered on the character of people (German Pilots) who operated by different code (at least those in the story). A good story of maintaining integrity through difficult situations.
What does Robertson Dean bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I enjoyed his pace and tone a well executed performance.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
As a pilot I was moved in several parts especially during the flights. Without giving away anything I was very moved at the end.
Any additional comments?
This book was right up my alley, WWII, perseverance, integrity, honor, the flying was a bonus.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

Who was your favorite character and why?
Louie by far.You had to admire both his physical and mental fortitude under such adverse circumstances.
What about Edward Herrmann’s performance did you like?
His tone was great nothing was ever overdone.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I will say there were times my heart sank and I was moved deeply by both the brutality and the camaraderie.
Any additional comments?
As a runner I would listen to Unbroken as I ran, on days when I should have rested I ran just so I could hear this story, one that I will never forget.
