Best Speaker - Professor - EVER

I've listened to many books - many of The Great Courses. John R. Hale is a truly great speaker. He's passionate about history and archaeology. His enthusiasm is infectious - I was sad for this course to end. But that's okay - I'll listen to every course he has available. I'll also listen to this course again - no doubt.

I have a graduate degree - I've attended many lectures for many years. I can assure you - this is a must listen. Rarely, very rarely do you find someone like this - so I say thank you - thank you to John Hale.

Would you try another book from Diana Gabaldon and/or Davina Porter?

I gave this book a chance, having never heard anything about it, if I liked it I would get the rest of the series. Obviously - I couldn't care less if I never see another book by Diana G.

What was most disappointing about Diana Gabaldon’s story?

It was impossible to empathize with the heroine. She was childish and nonsensical in her motivations. I was so disgusted with her character (or lack thereof) that I simply stopped listening halfway through the book. I'm not even slightly curious to know what occurs in her fictional life.

What does Davina Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Davina has a beautiful voice and a lovely accent. I wanted to like the book because it was so well acted. Unfortunately, in the end, I simply found myself wondering if she were bored reading such nonsense.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Outlander?

The ethical and moral structures were completely non-existent. It was impossible to understand the female character's mindset.
