Historia
I was working at my sister's clothing boutique in Carmel when I got the call. The hospital told me that my mother had been shot and was in critical condition. This could be my last chance to see her, and I needed to go to San Francisco immediately. I was stunned. Not just because of the horrific news, but also because my mother had died in a storm twenty years ago….

Wonderful!!!!
Revisado: 01-18-24
Amy McFadden does a fantastic job with differentiating the characters. The story has so many twists and turns I ended up binging it. You will not be disappointed by anything in this book. It has suspense, intrigue, romance, mystery, and a fantastic story.
I would highly recommend reading!

I should have learned with the first book
Revisado: 01-09-24
The first book in this series was bad enough with the monotone narrator. I saw someone wrote that the second book was much better.
I cannot say it was. I believe the storyline was much worse and the narrator, although not monotone absolutely horrible.
The Lily and Cassie characters are supposedly widowed as mother and daughter. The father and the daughter’s husband supposedly crashed in a plane in the opening of the first book in this series. After listening to the first book and this one, I do not believe this was an accident. I believe they purposely crashed a plane not to have to live with these two anymore.
Cassie is bad enough but Lily is downright annoying. The suspense the narrator believe she’s creating every few minutes of the book just to have it comically wiped away is so frustrating.
I’m trying to finish the book, but at this point, I’m rooting for the bad guys and the ghost to finish these two off!

Horrible narrator
Revisado: 01-09-24
I should have listened to the reviews on the narrator. She was beyond monotone. The storyline wasn’t too bad, but would’ve been much better with a different narrator. The Lily and Cassie characters have no personality and are far from grieving widows.
I would recommend you moving on and not purchasing this or the next book in this series.

Major Narrator Disappointment
Revisado: 07-22-21
Eagerly bought what is book 7 in the haunted bookshop mystery series because I really love the relationship between Jack and Pen. Storylines are cheesy (so is Hallmark!) and how many dead bodies can one woman find in a tiny town. Right from the beginning of the book it was like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard. I stopped quickly to see who the narrator was since she was obviously not the same same narrator as the previous six books. I gave it a chance, and I made it through the whole book, but it wasn’t easy! Everybody in the book sounds angry and mean. Aunt Sadie previously was a sweet tempered woman with a somewhat high pitch voice, however in book 7 she sounds like an old time mobster as do all the other characters.
As far as Jack and Pen’s relationship, their was none! This narrator could in no way capturer the essence and love of these two, they showed no fondness for each other and we’re quite mean it felt.
It was very disappointing.

Irritating
Revisado: 01-25-21
The main character, Abby, has got to be the most annoying, self-centered, whiney, condescending, and dramatic character I have ever listened to. Every sentence she utters is with such drama. She wants to be seen as this strong reliable person who can run her family's winery, but is about as fragile mentally as a dried rose petal. And then blames others for her shortcomings. It was rough getting through this book.
The story itself was not bad, but somewhat predictable.

Couldn’t Stop Listening!!!
Revisado: 04-20-19
I listened to the audio book. Loved the story and all the twists and turns. The narrator was AMAZING in the voices and catching the personalities of each character. So many books I have listened to lately have been good, but were ruined but horrible narration. This one will not disappoint.

Disappointing
Revisado: 07-13-16
I was very in to this story. The overwhelming love the main character had for her children. But "SPOILER ALERT" ...... Stop reading if you do not want to know......
The weak pathetic person she ended up as was a major let down at the end and was disgusting. I would have preferred that she died instead of turning into a self indulgent "poor little me" woman who cared more about herself than her abandoned daughter. She couldn't help it when she was young, but when she got her act together and realized how she screwed up her oldest, she bails and leaves the healing to her youngest daughter believing that "being abandoned" is a life lesson!!!

Disappointing
Revisado: 05-10-16
I really enjoyed the first book Marking Time. So I was not happy when I started the second book and the main character all of a sudden had a very heavy English accent! She is American and had only been in England a few months. It was totally unbelievable and annoying. Even using the word "Mum" instead of "Mom." It really killed the book for me. Unfortunately I had already purchased book 3 with book 2, so I'm kind of stuck listening to her voice.
