The Downing Street superforecaster—a specialist who advises the Prime Minister’s office on how policy is likely to be received by the electorate—has disappeared without a trace. Claude Whelan, who was once head of MI5, has been tasked with tracking her down. But the trail leads him straight back to Regent’s Park itself, with First Desk Diana Taverner as chief suspect. Has Taverner overplayed her hand at last?

This series has it all
Revisado: 09-08-22
The Slow Horses series has everything you would want in a story… intrigue, political doings and humor. The characters are interesting, quirky and very likable. The narration is fantastic. I cannot wait for the next book now that I have finished all of them! My day feels incomplete without being able to listen to an episode of Mick Herron’s books read by Gerard Doyle!

What was Connelly Thinking When He Wrote This?
Revisado: 11-24-20
Having read every prior Connelly book I know that there can be some hard to swallow occurrences and difficult to like characters, but this was one of the most preposterous story lines in procedural fiction. The characters (even the ones I know) were unappealing and the motives of the various parties were ridiculous. Even if you are a big fan I can't believe you could 5 star this one which makes me wonder about the 2,500 ratings getting to 4.5.....

Historia
Fans of John Grisham's legal thrillers will love the suspenseful action and intriguing courtroom drama of James Grippando's bestsellers. In The Pardon, Grippando delivers a scorching tale of vengeance that stains the sultry streets of southern Florida. Miami defense attorney Jack Swytek has long rebelled against his father, Harry, now Florida's governor. The two disagree on nearly everything, especially the death penalty.

Like Bad Network TV
Revisado: 03-09-18
Would you try another book from James Grippando and/or Ron McLarty?
I had read his latest book and it was pretty good but the first one in the series was terrible.
Has The Pardon turned you off from other books in this genre?
Preposterous plot with completely unconscious characters.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Voices were to great.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Pardon?
Half the book
Any additional comments?
An overall disappointment. Led down the path by other reviewers and came up very short.

Historia
Renée Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none, as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor. But one night she catches two cases she doesn't want to part with: the brutal beating of a prostitute left for dead in a parking lot and the killing of a young woman in a nightclub shooting. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn.

Surly Strange Main Character
Revisado: 08-15-17
What would have made The Late Show better?
This was the worst of Michael Connelly's books in my opinion. Unsympathetic and uninteresting characters (that coming from someone who has read every Harry Bosch book) take us through a weak plot. It felt like this one was written to meet a deadline or a quota. Hoping I don't have to read about Renee again......

Wow how did this get such great reviews
Revisado: 03-25-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The plot was terrible and the the scenarios developed implausible and factually inconsistent. Wondering if the book was edited.
What was most disappointing about Tom Wood’s story?
I found it difficult to find anything positive.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Killer?
Too many to mention. This could have been a good book had there been an able editor and attention to detail.
Any additional comments?
Felt ripped off buying the book.

Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

An Infusion of Joy
Revisado: 03-08-16
Would you listen to A Man Called Ove again? Why?
Although outside the norm for me in fiction subgenre the reviews compelled me to take a chance. What a great chance it was. I have now recommended this book to everyone I speak with, whether family, close friend or acquaintance. The novel is well written, engaging and full of the spirit that is so lacking in many lives. A thought provoker of the best kind and an inspirational relationship kick starter.
What other book might you compare A Man Called Ove to and why?
Although very different in many respects, the book that first comes to mind is Zeitoun.
What does George Newbern bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The narrator is fantastic.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
No man is an island.

My Least Favorite of Deon Meyer's Books
Revisado: 10-13-15
Would you try another book from Deon Meyer and/or Simon Vance?
Regardless of the mediocre novel this time the author is generally a very good read.
If you’ve listened to books by Deon Meyer before, how does this one compare?
This is the very bottom.
Did Simon Vance do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
I am a Simon Vance fan and continue to be. The mid range rating is partially due to the matreila he had to read this time out.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
no
Any additional comments?
Can't wait for Meyer's next book since I am certain it will redeem my faith in him.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Not really
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No, unless they rewrote portions of the book.
Any additional comments?
This had all the elements of a good read, but the decision to focus on the most salcious concepts was a wrong turn. I am all for sex but this was the tail wagging the dog. It took over the story to the detriment of the development of the central characters and the plot. Basically a good lay os worth more than one's country or ideals.... Really????

DI Thorne is not an unusual character for British crime fiction but he is enjoyable. I got caught up with the BBC televised mini series and then latched onto the books. Both are time well spent.

It is 1998, the year in which America is whipped into a frenzy of prurience by the impeachment of a president, and in a small New England town, an aging classics professor, Coleman Silk, is forced to retire when his colleagues decree that he is a racist. The charge is a lie, but the real truth about Silk would have astonished even his most virulent accuser.

Insightful Analysis of Human Mature and Society
Revisado: 05-14-15
I have always wanted to read the Human Stain and had never gotten around to it. No wish I got here sooner. Roth does and excellent job of weaving together disparate members of the human community and looking at the same event from their widely varying points of view. The novel causes reflection on events in ones own life as it is universal in nature. The narrator only enhances an exceptional work of art.
