I just made a friend! Lily Wong--
Revisado: 11-11-19
I just made a friend! Lily Wong-- a kick-ass girl who knows her mind, body and mission!
Not afraid and takes no prisoners!
Lily told me of her adventures while I was riding in my car. I was arriving to my destinations too quickly!
I found myself connecting (not that I'm in any way close to her level of cool!) to her. I love that she eats!, glad to see her relationship with her mother evolve and most importantly she shows us what a strong, confident woman she is.
A fun read (on in my case "listen")! Thank you to the wonderful reader Natalie Naudus for giving Lily such a great voice and more importantly to Tori Eldrige who brought Lily to life.
Girl power!

Historia
To Christina Olson, the entire world was her family's remote farm in the small coastal town of Cushing, Maine. Born in the home her family had lived in for generations, and increasingly incapacitated by illness, Christina seemed destined for a small life. Instead, for more than 20 years, she was host to and inspiration for the artist Andrew Wyeth and became the subject of one of the best known American paintings of the 20th century.

Historia
In 1944, British bomber pilot Hugo Langley parachuted from his stricken plane into the verdant fields of German-occupied Tuscany. Badly wounded, he found refuge in a ruined monastery and in the arms of Sofia Bartoli. But the love that kindled between them was shaken by an irreversible betrayal. Nearly 30 years later, Hugo's estranged daughter, Joanna, has returned home to the English countryside to arrange her father's funeral. Among his personal effects is an unopened letter addressed to Sofia. In it is a startling revelation.

Great writing. Performance excellent. Unfortunately, I found this book to be plot by convenience. Everything happened a little too neatly.

Historia
When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are listening to a story about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement - a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

If you like whiny characters, this book is for you
Revisado: 04-28-18
What was most disappointing about Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen ’s story?
O. Henry ending. Too much plot by convenience. The characters all need mental health attention. It wore me out.
Any additional comments?
Overly written.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

How could the performance have been better?
I didn't like the narrator's voice at all. I wish I had read it instead. She sounded whiny and nasal.
Was The Sweetness of Forgetting worth the listening time?
The story had a lot of things happening because they needed to happen. But overall, and despite the narrator's voice, I kept listening. Good beach book.

Historia
An extraordinary debut novel of love that survives the fires of hell and transcends the boundaries of time. The narrator of The Gargoyle is a very contemporary cynic, physically beautiful and sexually adept, who dwells in the moral vacuum that is modern life. As the book opens, he is driving along a dark road when he is distracted by what seems to be a flight of arrows.
