Historia
When Arlene Fleet heads up north for college, she makes three promises to God: She will stop fornicating with every boy who crosses her path; never tell another lie; and never, ever go back to the "fourth rack of hell", her hometown of Possett, Alabama. All she wants from Him is one little miracle: make sure the body is never found.

Southern sensation...

Hmmm. 'A Grown Up Kind of Pretty.' 'The Help.'
What does Catherine Taber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Sizzlin' southern drawl.
If you could rename Gods in Alabama, what would you call it?
A Mis-spent Youth

Historia
Tess "Mac" McPhail is one of country music's brightest lights, a multimillionaire accustomed to public adoration and the demands of a stellar career. 18 years after leaving her hometown, Mac is summoned back by her sisters to help care for their widowed mother. If the difficulties of a jealous sister and an intractable parent aren't enough, Mac faces the indifference of Kenny Kronek, the neighbor she taunted through high school, who has turned into a handsome divorcé. Discovering that Kenny's daughter Casey is a promising country singer, Mac becomes her mentor and eventually wins Kenny's heart. But as the pampered star learns to treasure the newfound commitments of family and community, her relationships are threatened by her return to Nashville and the trappings of superstardom. Small Town Girl is an affecting, scintillating, lyrical novel that could only come from the gifted pen of LaVyrle Spencer.

So disappointing...
Revisado: 03-27-12
What disappointed you about Small Town Girl?
Firstly, it's abridged. I loath abridged books. Secondly, I love this author and always enjoy the full development of her characters. I am a romance novel fan and I always recommend her books. 'Twice Loved' was my favourite book for a long time.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Not a LaVyrle.
What didn’t you like about LaVyrle Spencer’s performance?
The character's voices and the terrible song.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It was short.
Any additional comments?
Don't listen to this in audio. If you like romance books you will love LaVyrle's books. There is something intimate about romance novels that gets lost in translation to audio.

Historia
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

Fun fantasy
Revisado: 03-27-12
What did you love best about Hounded?
I love the dog! I loved that the dog had a voice in the central character's head, Atticus. The fact that Atticus is so endearing with the dog sucked me right in.
What did you like best about this story?
It was utter fantasy and very entertaining. I don't usually listen to this sort of book but I really enjoyed it. Great listening in the car and on walks. Not too heavy.
Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I haven't heard this guy before but I bought the audio book cause I liked the preview.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Put down your plastic fangs Twihards and pick up a plastic sword instead.

A Good Listen for those that liked 'The Help.'
Revisado: 03-27-12
If you could sum up A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty in three words, what would they be?
Fabulous, entertaining, endearing.
What other book might you compare A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty to and why?
Maybe it was the southern accent and setting but I thought this was entertaining in the same way that 'The Help' was. Strong female characters that worm their way right into your heart.
What does Joshilyn Jackson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The melting butter accent! She could read the alphabet and I would be gripped.
Who was the most memorable character of A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty and why?
I love 'Big' and I need her to move in and be my mum. Her unconditional love, the way she fights for her girls, she is engaging.
Any additional comments?
Buy this! I'm recommending it to everyone I can.

Disappointing
Revisado: 03-27-12
What would have made Rescue better?
This story was way too slow and I was hooked in by the characters at all.
What was most disappointing about Anita Shreve’s story?
If you are looking for entertainment like 'The Pilot's Wife' in this book, you will be sorely disappointed. I love 'The Pilot's Wife,' and rate it one of my all time favourites. The characters in 'Rescue' are blandly constructed and the storyline just never takes off. Webster, the central character, is flat and is difficult to connect with. Basically, it's a bit of a love story without the endearing characters.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Narrator was fine.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Rescue?
All of them.
